Loid Forger (ロイド・フォージャー, Roido Fōjā?) is one of the primary characters of the SPY x FAMILY series. His true name is currently unknown, as he discarded everything about his past to become an undercover spy for WISE, an eastern-focused division of Westalis Intelligence, operating under the codename "Twilight" (〈黄昏たそがれ〉, <Tasogare>?).

For his current mission, in which he must marry and have a child, Twilight moves to Ostania, creates the alias "Loid Forger," and starts the Forger family, becoming the adoptive father of Anya and entering a fake marriage with Yor Briar.

Loid is a handsome, tall man with short, ruffled blond hair, blue eyes, fair skin, and a slim, athletic build. His hair is typically slicked back to varying degrees depending on the occasion, while his eyes are usually sharp and slightly narrowed. Although Loid's exact age is unknown, his history and appearance suggest that he is in his late twenties or early thirties. Loid's handsome appearance attracts considerable attention, with many women becoming infatuated with him; even Anya's best friend, Becky Blackbell, develops a crush on him and describes him as "very dreamy."

Loid's typical work attire consists of a light green three-piece suit with a white dress shirt, red tie, and black leather shoes. A dagger-shaped WISE pin is fastened to the left lapel of his jacket. Depending on the occasion, he also wears hats of various styles and colors, including black, brown, and white, as well as a tan trench coat, black gloves, or a black wristwatch.

During infiltration and combat missions, Loid often wears a black tactical outfit consisting of a long-sleeved shirt, trousers tucked into boots, fingerless gloves, a belt, and a beanie-style cap fitted with goggles. He also wears a mask covering the lower half of his face while retaining his signature WISE pin on the left side of his chest.

At home, Loid typically wears plain T-shirts in white, gray, or black with either long black trousers or blue jeans, occasionally adding a vest or long-sleeved sweater. While working as a psychiatrist at Berlint General Hospital, he sometimes wears a white lab coat over his shirt and tie.

After losing his home and family during the second East-West war, he abandoned his former identity and devoted himself to becoming a spy dedicated to preventing further conflict, driven by the goal of creating a world where children do not have to cry. Loid's outlook is heavily shaped by his experiences during the war. As a child, he was comparatively naive and struggled with dishonesty, often feeling guilty when he lied. Influenced by patriotic propaganda, he believed fighting the East was a righteous cause, which frequently led to arguments with his father, who challenged his views. When the war destroyed his hometown and claimed his parents, Loid initially developed a deep hatred for Ostania and sought revenge by joining the military.

His views later changed after encountering Franky Franklin, an Ostanian deserter, and briefly reuniting with his childhood friends before losing them again. These experiences led him to question his previous beliefs and realize that ignorance and misinformation could cause unnecessary suffering, ultimately coming to view ignorance as a sin. After joining WISE, the lessons of his past and the guidance of his mentor Sylvia Sherwood strengthened his conviction that understanding others and obtaining accurate information are essential for preventing future conflict.

Although he values knowledge and understanding above all else, he primarily regards them as practical tools for survival and conflict prevention rather than experiences to be appreciated in their own right.

Because of his profession, Loid often approaches ordinary interactions with caution, frequently considering the possibility that others may be concealing hidden motives or affiliations. He shows consistent suspicion toward individuals he encounters during his investigations, even those within his immediate circle. For example, he initially suspects Yor might have connections to the State Security Service due to the position of her brother, Yuri Briar, as an officer. Although he eventually confirms she has no involvement and feels guilty for the doubt, he consistently maintains a high level of vigilance regarding everyone he encounters.

Despite this vigilance, Loid occasionally demonstrates a willingness to overlook anomalies that would normally warrant investigation. This selective oversight is most evident regarding Anya; after discovering her unexpected aptitude for Classical Language, he initially decides against investigating her history further, telling himself that there would be no point to it. When he later directly questions her about her background, and she claims to have no knowledge of her past, he chooses to drop the matter rather than pursue a deeper inquiry, suggesting a conflict between Loid's spy instincts and a subconscious desire to maintain the stability of his household. Furthermore, Loid maintains a deep respect for individuals he perceives as sincere or determined, such as Yor for her dedication to caring for Yuri at a young age.

To remain effective as a spy, Loid deliberately suppresses strong emotions. Having spent years in isolation, he has become detached from the notion of developing meaningful connections and believes that his profession does not allow for personal attachments. As such, he distances himself from everyone he meets, only closely interacting with certain individuals for extended periods of time if his assignment requires it. He views himself primarily as a tool for preserving peace; consequently, he believes that excessive attachment can cause hesitation, while hatred can lead to unnecessary violence. When he shows concern for others, he often rationalizes it as a practical step to maintain the stability of his mission rather than a genuine emotional response.

Despite the demands of his work, Loid maintains a strong personal ethic. Although he is willing to endure considerable hardship to accomplish his objectives, he avoids killing unless it is absolutely necessary and refuses to endanger innocent civilians. His compassion extends even to animals, as shown when he allows himself to be bitten by a trained attack dog in order to remove an explosive device without killing it. He also demonstrates respect for individuals he perceives as sincere; during his initial meeting with Donovan Desmond, he defends Damian's efforts to connect with his father despite this not being his intended objective. Following the Five-Year Love Plan hijacking incident, Loid's convictions as a spy are challenged. After Yor reprimands him for risking his life to protect her and reminds him that anyone can die, he reflects on the principles he has long upheld—that dying on a mission constitutes failure. As he criticizes himself for acting on emotion, however, he becomes momentarily uncertain of what he even means by that, finding himself unable to identify the emotion behind his actions and struggling to reconcile them with the detached reasoning he normally relies upon. Although he attempts to explain his behavior through mission-oriented logic, emphasizing both his own survival and Yor's importance to Operation Strix, his thoughts become increasingly disordered as conflicting priorities between his mission, his safety, and his family begin to overlap.

Although Loid ultimately suppresses these doubts through his usual mission-oriented reasoning, the uncertainty persists. Following a stressful gathering with Yuri and several SSS officers, Loid finds himself questioning whether Yor is an asset or an obstacle to Operation Strix, yet is unable to reach a definitive conclusion. Instead of attributing the evening's difficulties to Yor, he ultimately blames himself for failing to anticipate them. These moments suggest that Loid's growing attachment to the Forgers has complicated the mission-oriented framework through which he traditionally understands both his relationships and his actions, leaving him increasingly uncertain of his own motivations.Abilities and Skills

Prior to joining the organization, he served in the Westalian military during the Second East-West War, eventually attaining the rank of sergeant.[10] Widely regarded as WISE's finest agent, he possesses an exceptionally broad and versatile skill set, combining outstanding intelligence, strategic thinking, combat ability, and adaptability. His expertise encompasses numerous fields essential to espionage, including hand-to-hand combat, marksmanship, and mastery of disguise, allowing him to excel in a wide variety of missions and situations.

Genius Intellect: Loid possesses exceptional intelligence, analytical ability, and information retention. He is capable of retaining and recalling vast amounts of information after minimal exposure, once demonstrating the ability to recall the individual names and dietary habits of over 200 penguins after briefly skimming through a list, as well as remembering Yor's profile among a large number of potential wife candidates. He has also memorized the Ostanian Intelligence manual word for word, allowing him to immediately see through Yuri's cover story. Loid once claimed to have read every book in a particular library[11] and was able to memorize the faces and features of Donovan Desmond's security team while simultaneously carrying on a conversation with the man himself.[12]

Loid also possesses an unusually fast and complex thought process, often analyzing situations in fractions of a second[13] and processing large amounts of information almost instantaneously. This mental speed has occasionally made it difficult for Anya to read his thoughts, even causing her mild discomfort due to the sheer volume of information passing through his mind at once.[14]

Loid frequently applies his intelligence in practical situations, using his analytical skills to identify inconsistencies and draw conclusions that would escape most observers. He has used flour as a smokescreen during combat, quickly calculated the number of armed smugglers present and the time required to neutralize them during a crossfire,[15] and identified forged identification documents with little difficulty.

Loid's strategic thinking also allows him to assess risks and devise effective courses of action. When attempting to infiltrate the Imperial Scholars mixer in order to meet Donovan Desmond, he carefully considered multiple methods of bypassing security while evaluating the potential consequences and likelihood of success for each approach.[30] Loid also frequently incorporates deception, coercion, and psychological manipulation into his strategies, using them to influence others, obtain information, and achieve his objectives without direct confrontation. He successfully convinced a group of scientists that he had stolen the Gerrulimus, prompting them to reveal the serum's location themselves and allowing him to complete the mission without directly extracting the information.[31] He has likewise demonstrated the ability to leverage intelligence obtained through infiltration to manipulate his targets, such as when he coerced Edgar into abandoning his pursuit by threatening to expose his daughter Karen's crimes to the public.[16]

Trap Mastery: Loid is highly skilled at devising, concealing, and deploying traps to control his surroundings and gain an advantage over opponents. Drawing upon both his military experience and espionage training, he is capable of turning the environment itself into a weapon, using carefully prepared traps to restrict enemy movement, create openings, and neutralize threats while minimizing direct confrontation. His proficiency is such that even trained operatives can fail to detect his preparations. While evading the SSS in a park, Loid successfully concealed multiple traps throughout the area despite the agents thoroughly surveying the terrain beforehand, allowing him to hinder their pursuit and maintain the upper hand.[32]

Even as a child, Loid demonstrated considerable ingenuity when designing traps and improvised weapons during war games, using a bucket trap and a rubber-band gun to reverse a losing situation.[33] During the Second East-West War, he applied similar principles in actual combat, rigging a telephone booth to explode and using the trap against enemy soldiers.[10]

Master of Disguise: Loid is a master of disguise and impersonation, capable of convincingly assuming the appearance, mannerisms, and voice of a wide variety of individuals. His ability to fully immerse himself in a role dates back to childhood, when even his friends remarked on the intensity with which he approached role-playing games.[33] Through years of espionage training and experience, he has refined this talent into one of his defining skills as the agent Twilight.

Provided he has sufficient information on a target, Loid can perform highly convincing impersonations that allow him to infiltrate secure locations, gather intelligence, and evade detection. His mastery of disguise is so great that the Ostanian intelligence services remain unaware of his true appearance despite numerous agents having encountered him over the course of their investigations. Loid's disguises are versatile enough to allow him to convincingly assume a wide variety of appearances, as demonstrated when he successfully posed as a professional sumo wrestler despite lacking the physique typically associated with the sport.[34]

Loid's expertise also extends beyond disguising himself. He is capable of creating convincing disguises for others, having transformed both Franky and Fiona into believable SSS officers, including constructing a male disguise for Fiona.[32]

Stealth Mastery: Loid possesses exceptional stealth, enabling him to infiltrate and navigate heavily secured locations without detection, as demonstrated during his infiltration of the Born Industries facility.[31] He is also highly skilled in covert movement and surveillance, successfully tailing Yor for an entire day without being noticed despite knowing of her exceptional observational skills after she sensed his subtle gaze during their first meeting.[35]

Equipment and Weapons Mastery: As an elite WISE agent, Loid is highly proficient in the use of a wide variety of espionage equipment, weapons, and specialized tools. His training enables him to quickly adapt unfamiliar equipment to suit the needs of a mission while maintaining operational efficiency under pressure. This proficiency is demonstrated by his effective use of firearms, surveillance devices, explosives, communications equipment, and specialized gadgets throughout numerous missions. His familiarity with such equipment enables him to employ the appropriate tools for intelligence gathering, infiltration, combat, and escape while maintaining his cover. He is also capable of modifying or improvising the use of equipment when circumstances require it, making effective use of whatever resources are available to complete an objective.Exceptional Speed and Agility: Loid possesses exceptional speed, agility, and athleticism, allowing him to react quickly to threats, navigate difficult terrain, and perform complex acrobatic maneuvers in both combat and espionage operations. Loid is capable of traversing obstacles through acrobatics and parkour, evading opponents and pursuing targets with ease. He has escaped a trained military dog through a series of parkour maneuvers and demonstrated enough agility to leap from a tall bridge and apprehend a fleeing purse thief without being hindered by the landing.[22] During Anya's castle celebration, he also navigated numerous obstacles and assaults from trained WISE agents while performing various acrobatic feats.[36] His reflexes and coordination are precise enough to perform covert actions in crowded environments without attracting attention, such as discreetly firing a tranquilizer dart while bending down to retrieve a dropped handkerchief during a gathering attended by numerous SSS officers.[37]

His agility is particularly evident during the underground tennis tournament, where he evaded rubber bullets fired from multiple angles while simultaneously continuing play, even redirecting one of the projectiles back toward his opponent. He also displayed extraordinary jumping ability and acrobatic control throughout the match.[38] Even after being launched across a bar by a kick from Yor, Loid recovered quickly enough to land on his feet before eventually losing consciousness.[39]

Exceptional Strength and Stamina: Loid possesses considerable physical strength and stamina, allowing him to perform demanding physical tasks, overpower opponents, and continue operating effectively under strenuous conditions. His strength enables him to perform feats well beyond those of an average person. He has lifted an overweight child from a gutter with one arm, shattered a solid wooden table with a single punch,[40] and moved an entire dumpster by himself to barricade the entrance to his former apartment.[41]Combat Skills

Master Hand-to-Hand Combatant: Due to his military service and extensive espionage training, Loid is exceptionally skilled and experienced in unarmed combat. He is capable of subduing multiple armed opponents, engaging trained operatives, and adapting his fighting style to a wide variety of situations.[36] Loid combines technical proficiency with adaptability and composure under pressure. He has demonstrated the ability to contend with Yor despite her extraordinary physical strength. Although Yor was intoxicated during their confrontation and Loid made no attempt to harm her, he successfully defended himself by blocking and evading her attacks until she lost consciousness, emerging with only a minor injury.[48] He is also highly resourceful in combat, frequently incorporating his surroundings into his fighting style and using improvised weapons such as canned food, pipes, and even his own belt.

Master Marksman: Loid is an exceptionally skilled marksman, capable of maintaining remarkable accuracy and precision even in high-pressure situations. His proficiency with firearms allows him to effectively engage multiple targets, react quickly to changing circumstances, and execute difficult shots with consistency. Loid has demonstrated the ability to shoot multiple opponents while simultaneously defending himself in close-quarters combat.[15] During Anya's castle celebration, he successfully engaged several WISE agents positioned at different distances and elevations, even timing a shot to deflect multiple incoming projectiles during a crossfire.[36]

Loid's precision is sufficient to perform highly difficult shots under pressure. He was able to shoot the straps securing a bomb to a charging dog without harming the animal,[45] deliberately shot Yuri's pistol out of his hand immediately after sustaining a gunshot wound to his arm,[49] and accurately fired a concealed tranquilizer dart at Yor during a crowded social gathering without attracting the attention of nearby SSS officers.[37]Technical and Practical Skills

Vehicular Mastery: Loid is highly proficient in operating a wide variety of vehicles, allowing him to effectively navigate difficult terrain, conduct pursuits, execute evasive maneuvers, and adapt to unfamiliar vehicles when situations require it. He has demonstrated expertise with numerous forms of transportation, including automobiles, aircraft, and heavy machinery. He is capable of skillfully driving cars and vans during high-speed pursuits, as demonstrated during his mission to recover stolen artwork.[15] He has also piloted aircraft, most notably when flying his family and Franky to a castle during Anya's school admission celebration.[36]

His adaptability extends even to specialized vehicles. Loid successfully operated an excavator during a confrontation with a rogue construction worker, engaging in vehicular combat and ultimately overpowering his opponent through superior maneuvering. During the incident, he also demonstrated the ability to hotwire complex vehicles when necessary.[50]

Master Polymath: Loid possesses extraordinary versatility and learning ability, allowing him to rapidly acquire, refine, and apply a wide variety of practical, technical, athletic, academic, and creative skills as required by his missions. As a result of his extensive training and relentless pursuit of knowledge, he has become proficient in numerous disciplines, including lockpicking, forgery, lip reading, bomb disposal, and a variety of other practical and technical skills. When participating in an underground tennis tournament after only a brief period of practice, his performance surpassed that of numerous professional players.[51] During another mission, he convincingly assumed the role of a professional sumo wrestler despite lacking the physique typically associated with the sport, demonstrating his ability to quickly learn and emulate unfamiliar disciplines.[34]

Loid's intellectual versatility extends across a broad range of academic subjects, stemming in part from his deeply rooted belief that ignorance is a weakness to be overcome. This breadth of knowledge enables him to quickly adapt to unfamiliar situations and convincingly perform specialized professions. Most notably, he has successfully maintained the identity of psychiatrist Loid Forger, with his coworkers and patients regarding him as a capable physician despite there being no indication that he ever formally attended medical school. Having accumulated expertise across numerous fields, Loid has also served as Fiona's instructor during her early years at WISE.

This versatility also extends to domestic skills, particularly cooking. Having once gone undercover as a world-class chef, Loid is capable of preparing gourmet cuisine, much to the enjoyment of the Forger family and even Yuri's reluctant approval.[34] His extensive spy training has also provided him with a variety of other practical skills, including an unusually high tolerance for alcohol that allows him to remain composed and avoid impairment even after consuming large quantities.[52]

This adaptability extends even to leisure and creative pursuits that Loid appears to have little to no prior experience with, such as horseback riding, surfing, and constructing elaborate sandcastles.[19] In an effort to help Anya study, Loid once created and voice-acted an original Spy Wars episode nearly indistinguishable from the source material after only analyzing its artistic style and composition. While the project ultimately failed as a study aid due to its complexity, it nevertheless demonstrated his remarkable capacity to quickly understand and replicate unfamiliar creative disciplines.[53]Equipment
Throughout his missions, Twilight employs a variety of weapons, surveillance devices, communications equipment, and specialized gadgets. While many of the tools at his disposal remain unnamed or appear only briefly, several notable pieces of equipment have been shown throughout the series.

Firearms: Twilight's primary weapon is a custom pistol that can be fitted with a suppressor to facilitate covert operations. In certain situations, he has also employed heavier weaponry, such as a compact machine gun concealed within a specially modified suitcase.[32]

Etymology
The origins of Loid's codename, Twilight (〈黄昏たそがれ〉, <Tasogare>?), come from the phrase "Who is that?" when it's too dark to identify a person's face, as well as having a hundred faces.[57]
This phrase is also used in the Japanese language to describe the time of day as in the earlier periods of Japan, people would have difficulty identifying each other due to how dark it is during twilight.
Loid's surname Forger is likely a reference to the forged family he creates as part of Operation Strix. During the Campbelldon arc, the alias Foney similarly references the pair's role as a "phony" married couple.
The name Loid may be derived from "loiding," a lockpicking technique involving the use of a thin flat object to bypass a latch, paralleling his profession as a spy.
