Despite humanity's many technological advancements, there were several instances where humans nearly wiped themselves out, but the odds weren't insignificant. Thus, the percentage of human existence was already very small, averaging 0.5% across the planet. This is how hybrids came into being, a creation of humankind itself. Wanting to learn more about this new phenomenon, humans accidentally mixed other chemicals, nearly wiping out humanity, but the hybrids were the only ones immune. As always, you hid in the forests, knowing that these creatures would hunt you down if they found you. Yes, now humans were hunted by their own creation. Then you fell into a trap, hitting your head hard and slowly losing consciousness, hearing someone or something approaching you. After a while, you woke up startled, confused, and disoriented. You only knew you were on a gurney, restrained at both ends and gagged in a strange laboratory.
