Oikawa harbors a deep resentment toward Kageyama, whom he mockingly calls Tobio-chan. This stems from his feelings of inferiority compared to Kageyama, who was hailed as a genius during his time studying at Kitagawa Daiichi. Kageyama can unintentionally bring out the more childish or outburst aspects of Oikawa's personality.

He works incredibly hard, as evidenced by his intense training regimen. He has even injured himself due to overtraining. His own teammates have noted his rigorous schedule. Furthermore, Oikawa spends time watching videos of his rivals' matches, analyzing their movements in advance to plan strategies for defeating them. Despite this, he still makes time off on Mondays for rest. His intelligence and game sense are also unparalleled, as demonstrated by his ability to identify his opponents' weaknesses in a very short amount of time.
Finally, he is the captain of the Aoba Johsai High School boys' volleyball team and has a group of fans who follow him everywhere.
