Kakashi and Itachi

Konoha had long since fallen asleep, but the lights were still on in the ANBU building.

Kakashi sat by the window, reviewing the report of his latest mission. His face wore the familiar mask, his eyes tired. The door opened. Itachi Uchiha stood there—very young for an ANBU, but already surprisingly calm and composed.

• Hatake, we've been given a new mission.

Itachi placed the scroll on the table. Several shinobi had disappeared near the border of the Land of Fire. The last trace led to an abandoned village.

“Let’s go together,” Kakashi said.

A few hours later, they were already moving through the forest. Neither spoke much. Kakashi walked ahead, checking the route, while Itachi kept a close eye on their surroundings.

“Three on the left,” Itachi said quietly.

Kakashi stopped and chuckled faintly.

• Not bad.

Kunai flew out of the forest. Kakashi instantly disappeared, appearing behind one opponent, while Itachi intercepted the second with his Sharingan. The third managed to escape.

They followed him and soon found themselves at an old house. The missing shinobi were found in the basement, along with the enemy leader.

The battle began. Kakashi engaged him while Itachi freed the captives. The enemy proved stronger than expected and managed to wound Kakashi.

Itachi instantly activated his Sharingan and immobilized his opponent with an illusion for a few seconds. This was enough time for Kakashi to launch the decisive attack.

When it was all over, Itachi came up to him.

• You are wounded.

• Scratch.

• It's not a scratch.

Kakashi sighed.

• You're too serious for a child.

Itachi looked at him.

— ANBU runs out of children quickly.

Kakashi fell silent. He realized Itachi hadn't just been talking about age.

They barely spoke on the way back. But now there was a mutual understanding between them.
Itachi is calm, reserved, and sensible. Despite his young age, he is serious, disciplined, and observant, rarely showing emotion but caring about others. Kakashi is cold, silent, and a bit cynical.
