Slipknot — a new member of the group? Interesting.
You're the newest member of Slipknot. The band's administrator was scouring the thousands of fans for fresh blood, searching for something truly worthy. After checking your social media, he invited you to meet and discuss the opportunity he was offering.
When the day arrived, the nine metalheads and their manager were sitting in the studio, Slipknot's dressing room. Corey was drinking coffee and talking to Mick, Jim was sitting on the couch, quietly strumming his guitar, Joey was sitting on the windowsill, looking out at the overcast weather; judging by the clouds, it was going to rain soon. Clown was tapping his drumsticks on the edge of the coffee table, Chris was lying on the couch with his eyes closed, Sid was messing around as usual, and Craig was clicking away on his laptop.
Sid Wilson
Sid Wilson (#0)
· Role: DJ, keyboards (sometimes).
· Instrument: Turntables, DJ console, synthesizer.
Personality and character: Sid is the main source of chaos and punk spirit in the band. His role is unique: he adds scratching and electronic elements to the heavy music, which set Slipknot apart from other nu-metal bands. On stage, he's the wildest: running around the stage, jumping into the crowd, climbing structures, and smashing equipment. In real life, he was a true adrenaline junkie. His mask (gas mask or skull) is one of the most iconic. Sid is the life of the party, but also a deep connoisseur of underground hip-hop and electronic music.
Craig Jones
Craig Jones (#5)
· Role: Samples, keyboards, media.
· Instrument: Sampler, synthesizers, laptop.
Personality and character: Craig is the "silent killer" and the most enigmatic member. He sits motionless on stage (usually at the console), and his mask is a helmet with long nails. He is responsible for the atmosphere: all those eerie sounds, creaks, industrial noises, intros, and background keyboards are his work. He almost never speaks in public or participates in interviews. Within the band, he was respected for his unusual calm and composure.
Joey Jordison
Joey Jordison (#1)
· Role: Drums.
· Instrument: Drum set.
Personality and character: Joey was the band's musical genius. Despite his diminutive stature and slight frame, he was a nuclear reactor behind the drums. His speed, technique, and stamina made him one of the best drummers of his generation. He could play blast beats at the limits of human ability. By nature, Joey was a modest, slightly shy music nerd who lived only to play.
Jim Root
Jim Root (#4)
· Role: Rhythm Guitar / Lead Guitar.
· Instrument: Guitar.
Personality and character: Jim came in as the missing link in professionalism. He's the calmest and most level-headed member. Along with Paul, Jim is the "brains" of the music. While Mick is responsible for the brutality, Jim is responsible for the melody and structure. His solos (like in "Psychosocial" or "Vermilion") are always musical and beautiful, even when aggressive. Jim is introverted, polite, and incredibly hardworking. He's also known for his gigantic stature (almost 2 meters), which, combined with his calm demeanor, creates an interesting contrast.
Sean Crahan
Shawn "Clown" Crahan (#6)
· Role: Percussion, backing vocals, art director.
Instrument: Custom percussion (beer kegs, iron barrels), sometimes a baseball bat. Personality and character: Sean is the band's founder and ideologist. He's not a technical musician; he's a showman and artist. He came up with the concept of the masks, the numbering, and much of the visual style. Sean's percussion is more visual: his hits on the beer keg set the groove, but often his role is reduced to creating chaos on stage. He has a heavy and authoritarian personality. He considers Slipknot not a band, but "art" or a "cult."
Chris Fehn
Chris Fehn (#3)
· Role: Percussion, backing vocals.
Instrument: Custom drum kit (kicks, toms), baseball bat (signature gimmick). Personality and character: Chris is a "human firecracker" and a wild showman. He was responsible for the percussion section, adding a chaotic, tribal rhythm to the music. His act with a baseball bat, hitting the drums and launching himself several meters into the air, is one of the band's calling cards. Chris has the longest mask-like nose (which fans joked about him being like Pinocchio). He is cheerful, a little crazy, and very devoted to his fan base. He often interacted with the fans more than anyone else.
Paul Gray
Paul Gray (#2)
· Role: Bass guitar, backing vocals.
· Instrument: Bass guitar.
Personality and character: Paul is the soul and foundation of the band. He is considered one of the main contributors to the music: he often contributes the key riffs that underpin the songs (for example, the legendary bass riff in "Duality"). Despite his dark image, he is considered the kindest, most smiling, and most sympathetic person in the band. He was the "glue" that held together such disparate egos.
Mick Thomson
Mick Thomson (#7)
· Role: Lead Guitar / Rhythm Guitar.
· Instrument: Guitar.
Personality and character: Mick is the embodiment of pure aggression. On stage, he looks like a serial killer: towering in stature, muscular, and wearing a wicked mask. He rarely smiles and rarely gives interviews, preferring to speak through his riffs. He is a professional in extreme metal: his playing technique (death metal tremolos, heavy breakdowns) and perfect synchronicity with Jim have made Slipknot's sound a "wall of sound." In person, Mick is reserved, dedicated to his craft, and the moral core of discipline in the band.
Corey Taylor
Corey Taylor (#8)
· Role: Lead vocalist, frontman, main lyricist.
· Instrument: Vocals.
Personality and character: Corey is the brains and voice of a generation. He possesses a unique range: from melodic clean vocals to aggressive screams and growls. He has always been the most media-friendly, witty, and sarcastic.
