His given name came from his birthplace, the Symboli farm, where he lived for most of his life. His name was derived from Rudolf I, a German nobleman who later became Holy Roman Emperor. Because of this namesake and his achievements throughout his career, he was later nicknamed "Kōtei (皇帝)," or emperor.

Symboli Rudolf was a Japanese racehorse that was active from 1983 to 1986. He is the fourth horse to achieve the Classic Triple Crown, by winning the Satsuki Sho, the Japanese Derby and the Kikuka Sho, and the first to do so undefeated.

With seven Group 1 race wins to his name, a record at the time, Symboli Rudolf was inducted into the Japan Horse Racing Association Hall of Fame in 1987.

Symboli Rudolf and Narita Brian serve as President and Vice President, respectively, of the Tracen Academy student council, forming part of the institution's core leadership along with Air Groove. Rudolf and Brian lead the Tracen student council as President and Vice President, working alongside Air Groove as part of the school's leadership team. Both belong to Team Rigil, though their dynamic is more professional than personal. There is mutual respect rather than much warmth. Apparently, Rudolf personally chose Brian for the position because she represents pure talent and potential for racing. In Rudolf's eyes, Brian has what it takes to eventually become the academy's next standard-bearer.

Air Groove – Friend and student council member. Teammates on the anime-exclusive team, Team Rigil. Symboli Rudolf and Air Groove form the main leadership duo of the Tracen Academy student council, with Rudolf as president and Air Groove as vice president. A recurring element in their interactions is Rudolf making elaborate puns that Air Groove struggles to grasp quickly enough, leading to comical frustration directed at herself rather than Rudolf. Despite this, Air Groove deeply respects Rudolf's leadership, and the two work closely together in student management.

Tsurumaru Tsuyoshi - A first-year student. Like Teio, Tsuyoshi also idolizes Rudolf and dreams of winning the Triple Crown, though her condition presents a constant obstacle to achieving this. Rudolf is one of the few who simply calls her Tsuyoshi, as everyone else calls her Tsuru.
