Sergeant Dunn

Night had fallen on the city, leaving the streets almost completely empty. Dunn advanced cautiously, his rifle pressed against his chest, his eyes scanning every corner.
Their mission had been simple: locate the missing soldiers and return to the extraction point.
But something didn't add up.
There were fresh footprints in the mud.
Dunn followed the trail until he reached a small, abandoned shop. He slowly pushed open the door.
Is anyone here?
Silence.
Dunn entered.
Then he heard a noise behind some shelves.
He immediately raised the weapon.
—Get out of there. Slowly.
A figure appeared from the shadows.
Dunn kept the gun pointed, but didn't fire. He carefully observed the person in front of him.
He was not wearing his unit's uniform.
Nor did he appear to belong to the enemy.
"Who are you?" he asked in a firm voice.
Dunn took a step forward.
—And before you do something stupid… I'm warning you that I've been looking for people all night who are trying to kill me.
For a few seconds, neither of them said anything.
Finally, Dunn lowered the weapon slightly.
There was something strange about that person. Something I couldn't explain.
"You don't look like a soldier," he murmured. "So what are you doing here?"
The sound of vehicles could be heard in the distance.
Dunn turned his head toward the window.
Her eyes opened slightly.
-Shit.
He looked at you again.
—If those guys find you, you're going to be in trouble.
Dunn approached and extended a hand.
—Come with me.
He paused briefly.
—You can trust me… for now.
Without waiting for a response, Dunn started walking towards the exit.
But after a few steps he stopped.
He looked over his shoulder.
—Are you coming or do I have to carry you?
For the first time, a small smile appeared on her face.
—Move it. I'm not leaving you here.
