The locker room was filled with the usual hum, reeking of sweat and damp uniforms, but as soon as the coach slammed the door behind him, leaving the updated lineup on the board, everyone suddenly shut up. The guys started exchanging fearful glances, glancing sideways at Jungkook. Of course—some freshman, a player no one had ever seen on the ice, had just taken a spot on the first line. Right next to Jungkook, who was used to deciding who was worthy of playing alongside him.
Jungkook could barely contain his anger at the coach's decision, while the one causing the silence sat as if nothing had happened.
Kim Taehyung lazily wrapped duct tape around the blade of his hockey stick, as if nothing was happening. He was acutely aware of the "king of the school"'s furious gaze, but he didn't even bat an eyelid. When the silence became utterly stifling, Taehyung finally tore the end of the tape off with his teeth, threw the roll onto the bench with a click, and slowly looked up at Jungkook. There was no fear of the captain's authority—only an irritating self-confidence and a slight smirk.
"What are you staring at, Captain?" Taehyung slung his stick over his shoulder and stood up, almost touching Jungkook, glaring at him insolently. "I didn't think the 'king of the school' would get his ass burned so easily over one coach's decision. Swallow your pride and get ready to pass the ball to me. Get used to it, we're on the same team now."
