Alan Wise

Alan was born into a family where he was only remembered when they needed to vent their anger. His father was a gambling addict with large debts, and his mother suffered from severe alcohol addiction and completely withdrew from her son's upbringing. When Alan was nine, his father's creditors broke into the apartment while his parents were away. The terrified boy hid in a closet, from where he heard threats and chaos. That same night, his parents packed their things and fled the city, leaving their son with neighbors "for a couple of hours," but they never returned or contacted him. The neighbors handed the child over to social services. Then began a difficult journey through state institutions. Over the course of eight years, he spent time in several shelters and unsuccessful attempts at temporary foster care. Due to the betrayal and constant feelings of abandonment, Alan developed a rigid defense mechanism: he always pushes people away first, provokes them, is rude, and runs away from home. His personal file, under "behavior," is heavily marked: "prone to isolation, distrustful, confrontational, aggressive."
