Appearance
Isagi is a relatively tall teenager with an average muscular build, developing a stronger, more defined physique. He has short blue hair that leaves a V-shaped fringe between his blue eyes.
While attending Ichinan High School, he wore an unbuttoned blazer over a white T-shirt and a striped tie. Both his Ichinan High School T-shirt and gym uniform are light-colored with black stripes.
In Blue Lock, Isagi wears the standard bodysuit (black with blue stripes) and tracksuit. During the First Selection, he wore the Z Team's blue #11 jersey and wears his grey cleats. During the Second Selection, he wore the White Team's #15 jersey and later switched to red. He then switched to the A Team's black #15 jersey during the Third Selection. Isagi wears an official Blue Lock player uniform colored blue with the number 11, which looks very similar to the ones seen on the first cover minus the Japanese flag during the match against the Japanese U-20 National Team. During the Neoegoist League for the German team Bastard München, he wears the team's black, red, and gold uniform with the number 11. During the U-20 World Cup, he wears the national team's uniform with the number 11.
Personality
Isagi is a normally kind and pleasant boy, being very helpful and understanding towards others.
When he enters his soccer ecstasy mode, Isagi is completely transformed, having a determined, analytical and very direct attitude, he focuses solely on his goal without caring about anything else, seeing the best way to manipulate the situation to reach his final goal, being a true selfish man who will focus on his personal victory.
Isagi can humiliate and degrade others in a highly direct way, however instead of being empty insults or degradations based on his ego or feelings, Isagi relies on logic to say his words based on events that occurred before causing those humiliated to not be able to deny him because he is right, his reasons for this being mainly towards others who had previously degraded him such as Barou or Kaiser, although this only goes to those who attack him mainly, since normally with his normal opponents on the field Isagi maintains a respectful rivalry relationship taking into account of course the regular nicknames and insults that the players give each other.
Skills 1/6
Archetype
Raumdeuter: The word essentially translates as "spatial explorer" and best describes the role of a Raumdeuter who effectively exploits midfield. A Raumdeuter's primary function is to move around the field and find spaces to exploit; they are essentially players who locate dangerous areas of the pitch and use the resulting open space to create confusion for the opposition between the back lines. They are limited dribblers and not known for their pace. Their first touch is very efficient and contributes significantly to their build-up play before scoring.
Isagi creates ideal plays and seizing opportunities by using his spatial awareness to see the field as a whole and the players on it. With his understanding of all the players, he uses his off-the-ball movements to occupy empty spaces or create dangerous areas to set up ideal plays for his teammates, opportunities to utilize his teammates, and to score high-level goals for himself. Combined with his reflexes and enhanced vision, Isagi is able to create plays that are only possible for him. Due to his relationships and playing time with most of the top players on Blue Lock, Isagi can bring out the best in his teammates by forcing them to make plays in order to attack or by pushing them to overcome his evolving abilities. By the time of the Neo Egoist League, the players were willing to follow or use Isagi's playing style as a guide to solidify their place at the top of Blue Lock. Sae Itoshi has stated that he is the heart of Blue Lock, and Ego has also hinted at this. His abilities are highly recognized and respected by most of Blue Lock and the world at large; even Jinpachi Ego publicly comments on his skill.
Skills 2/6
Spatial Awareness: Isagi instinctively begins to analyze the entire field, giving him a broad understanding of the game, including the strengths of his opponents and teammates. Based on this knowledge, Isagi can make accurate predictions about the flow of the match. These premonitions allow him to envision an ideal play mid-match and execute it efficiently even when facing strong opposition and an unpredictable field. His spatial awareness is among the highest in Blue Lock, often rivaling and sometimes surpassing the vision of other players, such as Niko and Rin.
Goal-scoring instinct: using his spatial awareness, Isagi instinctively recognizes the "smell of a goal" emitted by key players based on his prediction and is able to expertly send them the ball so they can score.
Adaptability: Naruhaya pointed out that Isagi is a genius in terms of adaptability. By understanding the core of his teammates' and opponents' football, Isagi can adapt his style to devour or counteract their talent. Isagi has "devoured" Naruhaya's off-ball movements and his ability to exploit blind spots, he has adapted to devour Barou and exploit his weaknesses to score, he has adjusted his thinking mid-game to outsmart and score against Rin, a physically and technically superior player, and he has also added Meta-Vision to his repertoire.
Skills 3/6
Meta-vision: A term used to describe a player's evolved vision that gives them an omnipotent perspective of the field. Using his eyes to constantly gather information from his central and peripheral vision, Isagi constantly compiles data on each player, every play they make, and their positions on the field. After analyzing Michael Kaiser's goal-scoring formula, Isagi adopted Kaiser's transcendent use of his vision into his own playing style and, combined with his spatial awareness, positioning, and reflexes, Isagi is able to quickly predict and stop the plays of some of the best players in Blue Lock and even one of the best strikers in the world, and also creates ideal situations for his own goals using his teammates in a way that is only possible for him.
Meta Burst Point: Using his Meta Vision, Isagi is able to identify the most critical point in the enemy's game and move to steal the ball or stop it at the last second. He used this ability with great effect in the game against Manshine City.
Egocentrism: Isagi is able to use his Metavision to read and understand the motivations or "starring role" behind people's playing styles, and use that understanding to create even more opportunities for himself and his own team, denying opposing players crucial plays they try to make. Through this, Isagi is able to anticipate, defend against, and stop critical, illogical, and even "miraculous" plays that would normally be considered rational, unpredictable, and unstoppable.
Skills 4/6
Straight Shot: Isagi first assesses the defenders' positions and the ball's trajectory, then delivers a powerful kick at the ball's point of impact to score a goal. By doing this, Isagi avoids having to think too much about his positioning and next move and is able to score a straight shot without interference. Nagi noted that Isagi wastes no movement when performing his shot, implying that Isagi performs his shot with impeccable technique and control.
Straight Back Heel Kick: Isagi first assesses the defenders' positions and feints a straight kick in anticipation of his opponent's block. He then delivers a powerful back kick at the ball's point of impact to score a clean shot. This move was first used against Rin Itoshi during their rematch in the Second Selection, which surprised everyone at first glance.
Left Footed Straight Shot: Acting as a complement or "side weapon" to his right footed straight shot, Isagi is capable of performing a left footed straight shot when his dominant right side is blocked that is strong but not as powerful as his right footed straight shot.
2-Stage Left Footed Direct Shot: Isagi assesses the defenders' positions and feints a direct shot with his right foot, anticipating his shot being blocked, then proceeds to hit the ball into the air and to the side, creating even more space for a free left footed direct shot.
Skills 5/6
Two Gun Volley: A fast, ambidextrous shot in the air inspired by Nagi's juggling shot. Isagi positions himself to shoot using one foot, but fakes the shot by moving his foot over the ball in the air. He then jumps and quickly takes a direct volley shot with the other foot towards the goal, effectively combining his direct shots with his left and right feet. Hiori has stated that this shot is "unstoppable," as no matter which defender steps in to block his shot, Isagi can fake in the air and shoot after disrupting their timing. Furthermore, it will be difficult for the goalkeeper to time his shot.
Off-ball movements: Term used to describe moments when players are not in possession of the ball. Isagi can use these moments to position themselves in their opponents' blind spots, position themselves in a place where they can deceive the opponent and be a decoy for their teammates' shots, or to position themselves close enough to a teammate to create a wall that can break through an enemy's defense.
Positioning: Imitating Rin, Isagi can use his positioning to exploit luck during a match. If he realizes he won't receive the ball, Isagi will move to a opportune spot, where he'll be in his opponent's blind spot and able to score with a direct shot. He used this to score the decisive goal in the match against the Under-20 team.
Diagonal run with lateral step: while facing two defenders, Isagi wastes both of their time by feigning to go left or right, and then runs through the space between them that he created.
Skills 6/6
Reflexes: Isagi, starting with the match against the Japan U-20 team, has begun to consciously incorporate reflexes into his game. Isagi is able to use his awareness of the pitch conditions to find openings of opportunity, whether it be to attack the opponent's goal or defend his own. He used this to instinctively move into a position where he could use a direct shot, after passing to Nagi, he used this to read Sae's corner kick, taking into account Sae's pass as well as the positioning of Rin and Shidou, and he also demonstrated this ability at the end of the match against Japan U-20 when he reflexively moved towards the ball while in the U-20 team's defense's blind spots, scoring a powerful direct shot.
Stream State: Stream, as described by Ego, the Immersion State of Total Aggressive Focus is the state of "total immersion" or "being in the zone". It is the mental state in which a person performing some activity is completely immersed in a feeling of energized focus, total involvement, and enjoyment in the process of the activity. Isagi's Stream State involves Isagi constantly using all of his weapons at once to read the field and the distortions caused by the players on it. With his Metavision, he complexly reads the field and identifies the players' motivations and distortions, then takes advantage of them with his spatial awareness and reflexes and mounts either a surprise armored defense or a quick, unstoppable attack using his positioning and one-touch passing. Isagi has unintentionally entered stream mode on numerous occasions during Blue Lock, even dating back to the First Selection, though his most impressive feat was entering stream mode during Bastard München's match against Manshine City, taking control of the field and directly leading his team to score twice.
What is Project Blue Lock?
Project Blue Lock is an experiment created and funded by the Japan Football Association. Led by Jinpachi Ego, the project aims to create the world's best Japanese striker based on data and ego. Blue Lock boasts its own high-tech facility, complete with bedrooms, a cafeteria, gyms, football pitches, and bathrooms, large enough to accommodate over 300 people.
Blue Lock is a cutthroat battle for survival and to be the best. Once you're eliminated, your entire football career can be ruined. That's why there are different Selections and Phases, to weed out the mediocre players and separate them from the true diamonds in the rough.
What was the Neo-Egoist League?
Ego invited all the Blue Lock players who had made it to the Third Team, along with the regulars from the former Japanese U-20 National Team, and had them choose a national training camp. To prepare the players to compete against the world at the upcoming U-20 World Cup, Ego decided to transform Blue Lock's environment to emulate the football scene in Europe's top five leagues: France, Germany, England, Italy, and Spain. The players had to choose a country to train in based on their preferences and what they hoped to gain from the training. Ego revealed that no matter where they went, this selection process would inevitably change the lives of all the players, for better or for worse.
Players have 90 minutes to choose one of the five countries, with a maximum of nine players per league. However, the longer they take to choose, the greater the chance that the available slots will run out.
When players choose their country, they will be divided into tiers based on that country and will be able to train with the Under-20 players from the top club in their respective countries, as well as the star striker who reigns supreme on that team. The teams and star strikers for each country are:
England: Manshine City
Spain: FC Barcelona
Italy: Ubers
France: PXG
Germany: Bastard München
After the initial training session, the head striker will select an 11-man team comprised of players from the club's Under-20 squad or Blue Lock. This team will participate in a round-robin tournament, pitting Blue Lock's rivals against world-class players in best-of-three matches. Following each match, presidents of top clubs worldwide, who were watching the games, will make offers for players they are interested in signing. The value of the offer will determine the players' rankings. Once the tournament concludes, only the best Blue Lock players will be selected as regulars for the Under-20 squad.
