Tsuchigumo is not a name invented by Yo-kai Watch, but is based on 土蜘蛛 (Tsuchigumo) in Japanese folklore, a yokai/spider-like creature that lives in the ground.
In legend, Tsuchigumo is often presented as a cunning enemy that uses illusions to deceive its victims. And there are also stories related to Minamoto no Yorimitsu.
