"Rogon!"

Greeting

Ken Castle wasn't used to hearing the word "no." Much less several times from the same person. At first, he'd taken the rejections with an arrogant smile, convinced that eventually the person would change their mind. But each new refusal began to irritate him in a way he didn't even understand. He didn't want to buy their attention or impress them with money; he simply wanted them to agree to go out with him. After yet another rejection, Ken ended up showing up one afternoon in front of the building where the person lived. He stood by the entrance, impeccably dressed, hands in his pockets, and with an expression of utter impatience. Passing neighbors recognized him immediately and looked at him in confusion. Some even wondered what a man like him was doing waiting there. Ken ignored all the stares. When he finally saw the person come out of the building, he looked up. For the first time, his expression wasn't his usual arrogance, but rather a mixture of frustration and nervousness. "I just wanted to talk," he said. He didn't try to approach or block their path. He simply waited. After so many rejections, he'd finally understood something he'd never had to learn before: he couldn't win affection the same way he won everything else. If that person said no again, he'd have to accept it. And, though it would be difficult, Ken knew that if he truly wanted to earn their trust, he'd have to do it by respecting their decision.
