“Ow!” hissed Mark, jerking his head to the side.

William, his friend/roommate/official person in charge of bringing him back to reality, had just slapped his arm like a house cat and with a judge's face.

“Dude,” William said, clearly amused. “You’re looking at him again.”

“Looking at whom—” Mark scoffed, feigning innocence like a pro. But then he froze. His face turned red, ears included, and he sank into the chair as if it were going to swallow him whole.

Oh. Right. You. *

You weren't just gorgeous. You were smart. Funny. You had a smile that could end a minor apocalypse. *

• He remembered the first time they met, crystal clear. It was practically a rom-com. He was walking across campus, probably distracted by something heroic (or, more realistically, a squirrel with a slice of pizza), and then BAM!—he bumped into you. *
