Coco Bandicoot

Coco is a young, anthropomorphic Eastern bandicoot with orange fur, green eyes, and long blonde hair, which she usually wears in a high ponytail with long, curly bangs. Her proportions are more humanoid than her brother's, as she has a more defined neck. She has black eyebrows, small, pointed ears with brown interiors, a short snout with a small black nose, peach-colored fur around her muzzle, and often appears to wear pink lipstick. In Naughty Dog's games, her eyelids are darker, giving the appearance of eyeshadow. In her classic appearance, she wears a blue flower behind her left ear and a white T-shirt, light blue overalls with a strap over her left shoulder, and pink sneakers with white soles. This classic appearance has undergone several variations over time; in The Wrath of Cortex, her flower is purple instead of blue, and the insides of her ears are peach-colored. The most significant variation of this design is found in It's About Time, where her flower is replaced by protective goggles placed on her forehead, a pink utility belt with a pouch for items is added, a pink heart-shaped patch on her right knee, a pink bracelet on her right wrist, and a small white earring in her right ear.

In many of Coco's appearances, she is frequently seen carrying her trusty laptop everywhere. Her laptop is usually bright pink and covered in various stickers. In "It's About Time," Coco trades her laptop for a tablet, which is a lighter pink and covered in new stickers.

Coco is a brilliant mechanic and computer whiz, often seen tinkering with gadgets or hacking into systems. Her fascination with technology is evident from her early days under N. Gin's tutelage at Cortex's castle, where she demonstrates her aptitude for mechanics and computing. She hacks into Cortex's systems to uncover his schemes; Coco's intelligence isn't just academic, but she applies it practically, often outsmarting villains like Cortex.

Coco's dialogue is peppered with a playful, confident attitude and sharp wit. Her interactions with Crash are full of affectionate banter, such as calling him "big brother" while ordering him to fetch parts. Even when captured, she retains her courage; her energetic nature makes her a lively counterpart to Crash's more laid-back demeanor.

Coco's determination is evident in her relentless pursuit of her goals. She is highly competitive; her frustration when Crash fails to retrieve the pieces demonstrates her intense desire to succeed. Even under pressure, she recovers with a plan to thwart the villains.

Coco's bond with Crash and Crunch is a fundamental part of her personality. She relies on Crash to help her with her projects, affectionately calls him "big brother," and celebrates his victories. Despite her playful teasing, she is very protective, warning Crash about Cortex's deception and prioritizing the safety of Wumpa Island and her home.

Coco's playful side balances her intelligence. Her dialogue often includes quirky phrases and words like "and stuff" or "the best," reflecting her youthful energy and enthusiasm. She's excited about gadgets and finds Crash's antics hilarious.

Coco's ability to think quickly is a defining trait. She escapes Cortex's castle through a secret trapdoor and hacks holograms to warn Crash. Even when captured, she remains defiant and resourceful, finding ways to resist or contribute to the heroes' efforts. Her quick thinking often saves the day, such as when she disables the Doominator with her transpalooper.

Coco can be impatient when things don't go her way, especially when Crash doesn't deliver the parts on time. Her perfectionism is evident in her insistence on building the "best" vehicles and her frustration when her plans are thwarted. This impatience underscores her passion, but it can lead to moments of exasperation.

Her most notable attribute is her intelligence, with a reported IQ of 164. Coco often helps Crash by building gadgets for him or accompanying him on his travels, using the martial arts she has learned on her own to defend herself. She is a fan of martial arts movies, wrestling, and NASCAR.

She possesses the same skills and techniques as her brother Crash, but prefers using gadgets to fighting on her own. If hand-to-hand combat is necessary, she will.

Crash Bandicoot:

Coco shares many traits with his older brother Crash. Physically, they are usually depicted as being the same height. In most appearances where both are playable, they have similar or identical abilities (spinning, sliding, etc.). Besides adventuring together, they both love to relax and laze around.

Aku Aku:

Aku Aku calls Crash and Coco his children, protects them, and guides them on their adventures, so he could be considered a father figure to them. Although Dr. Cortex begins to see Crash as his son in Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time, he never does so with Coco.

Tawna Bandicoot Alternative:

Coco knows Tawna, but they've lost touch. In Crash 4, Crash and Coco meet a Tawna from an alternate universe, who rejects their request to join them and leaves. Coco seems upset by this, and Crash comforts her. Tawna accepts their friendship after they defeat both Dr. N. Tropys, and at the end of the story, they play a video game together.

Dingodile

They were previously enemies, as in Crash Bandicoot: Warped, Uka Uka and Cortex hired him to take down Crash in the Ice Age, but he was ultimately defeated. Although they ceased being enemies in Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time, Crash and Coco initially acted somewhat aggressively upon seeing him again. However, after Tawna explained the situation, they quickly became allies and even friends.

Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back

Coco first appears in the opening scenes of Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back, living on N. Sanity Island with Crash. When his laptop battery dies, he sends Crash to find a replacement. When Coco discovers Crash is collecting crystals for Cortex, he becomes suspicious and hacks into his computer to see what he's really up to. What he finds are detailed blueprints for an upgraded Cortex Vortex and a suspicious-looking space station. He uncovers Cortex's true plan just as Crash has gathered all the crystals and reveals Cortex's intentions to him before he can deliver them. He appears alongside his brother and N. Brio as they destroy the Cortex Vortex with N. Brio's laser beam.

Crash Bandicoot: Warped

In Warped, Coco makes her first appearance as a playable character. Aku Aku tasks her and Crash with using N. Tropy's Time Twister machine to collect powerful crystals scattered throughout time before Cortex can use them to brainwash the entire world. Coco helps gather the crystals in 17th-century Imperial China, the 18th-century Pacific Ocean, and World War I-era Europe. She is also responsible for defeating N. Gin on the moon, with the help of her new pet tiger cub, Pura.

Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time

Coco is a main character alongside Crash in It's About Time. After completing N. Sanity Peak, any level playable with Crash can also be played with Coco (with the exception of Crash-specific flashback levels). As in the N. Sane Trilogy, the two control identically. She is unlocked as a playable character after completing N. Sanity Peak and opening the Dimensional Map. Coco first appears in N. Sanity Peak, where she and Aku Aku have discovered a Quantum Rift, a literal hole in space that serves as a gateway between dimensions. With the help of Quantum Masks and other allies, she and Crash travel across dimensions to stop Nefarious Tropy and Neo Cortex from rewriting history. Throughout the game's story, Coco frequently acts as Crash's "voice," offering explanations and conversing with characters, as her brother does not. In particular, she forms a strong bond with an alternate-dimensional version of Tawna they meet during their journey.

There are ten levels of Coco-exclusive flashbacks that delve deeper into her story and her relationships with other characters. She was created sometime between the events of Crash Bandicoot and Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back, and eventually escaped from Cortex's castle through a "secret escape hatch."

Coco attempted (unsuccessfully) to invent the world's first autonomous flying car and later became famous as an esports champion, calling herself "Kickass Coco".
