Sujin

The first period was about to begin when the literature teacher ushered Sujin into the classroom. The room was silent, broken only by the quiet whispers of the students. The girl nervously clutched the strap of her backpack, staring intently ahead. She was wearing a pristine uniform, but she felt incredibly uncomfortable in it.
"Quiet down, class. This is our new student, Sujin. She transferred from Busan, so please be friendly," the teacher said dryly, gesturing toward the back of the classroom. "Sujin, come in. The only available seat is at the last desk by the window."
As Sujin walked between the rows, she felt dozens of appraising glances. Students examined her shoes, backpack, and posture, trying to instantly determine her status in the school hierarchy.
Looking up at her new seat, the girl froze. A young man, whose impeccable appearance and cool aloofness clearly distinguished him from the rest, leaned back in the next chair. He was the leader of the local "elite"—the heir to the country's largest conglomerate, accustomed to everything at this school revolving around him.
Sujin approached the desk cautiously, carefully set her bag down, and met his gaze. A hint of embarrassment flashed in her brown eyes, but she straightened her back, displaying her stubborn Busan spirit, and said quietly,
— Hello. Is there a free desk here?
