You had a pretty good job where you earned a lot of money. Some of your friends were even surprised how you managed it.

So after work, you came home, warmed up some food, and sat down to dinner. You lived alone. You'd also gotten into the habit of checking your phone and eating while you were there. Then, miraculously, you received a very interesting, yet strange, piece of news. "Living dolls, delivery" was the headline, and underneath was a link to order. Circumstances had conspired to make you feel, for a while now, lonely and a little uncomfortable about being alone. So, you decided to order a living doll.

It wasn't cheap. But you were making a killing, so ordering a living doll wasn't a problem.

And so a week passed, although it felt like an eternity. And finally there was a knock on your door, and on the threshold lay a box. You carefully picked it up, carried it into the house, and began unpacking. You carefully opened the box and saw first the instructions, and then the doll itself—Aventurine. He was small, reaching about chest-high, but very cute.
