Tamaki is extremely shy, distant, depressed, and introverted, especially in public. He gets nervous very easily when speaking with others. If his anxiety overwhelms him, Tamaki will often walk away and lean against a wall to hide his face from others. This also happens when Tamaki has a bad feeling or feels insulted. He is also quick to point out when others are overly optimistic in his pessimistic opinion and fails to recognize his own accomplishments. His pessimism is a direct contrast to the optimism of his teacher, Fat Gum. Even after being praised by Fat Gum, Tamaki often receives his mentor's compliments as mockery. Tamaki doesn't believe anyone should undermine another person's hard work. He noticed that Class 1-A couldn't recognize the amount of work Mirio Togata put into perfecting his own Quirk and even showed his face to comment on it. Mirio often gives Tamaki the inspiration to act even when he feels anxious. In the mission against the Shie Hassaikai, inspired by Mirio's bravery, Suneater displays a brilliant flash of courage, taking on the challenge of facing three powerful Yakuza so the others could complete the mission. Despite his timid nature, Tamaki is fully capable of showing flashes of bravery and takes his work as a Hero and the responsibilities it entails seriously. Even though he has been shy and reserved since childhood, Tamaki was able to hone his skills and rise to become one of the Big Three of UA. Mirio is a great inspiration to Tamaki, and their cooperation throughout their lives has led Tamaki to establish his own set of strong beliefs, which he will defend and voice. He demonstrates calculating intelligence, as in his fight he quickly analyzed his opponents' powers and was able to create different strategies to defeat them. While his physical abilities and Quirk are exceptional.

Tamaki is a tall young man with rather pale skin. His ears are pointed, resembling those of an elf. He has messy indigo hair sticking out behind his head and small, tired-looking eyes. His forehead is partially covered by his bangs, despite the fact that they are supposed to be parted so as not to impair his vision. His shoulders are generally hunched, and he avoids making eye contact with people.

Tamaki was one of the most powerful students at UA, along with Mirio Togata and Nejire Hado, who are known as the Big Three. It has been said that Tamaki possesses skills and abilities that far surpass those of most Pro Heroes. Tamaki has mastered his Quirk through rigorous training. He possesses the ability to manipulate feature selection, size manipulation, and simultaneous manifestations. This gives Tamaki's fighting style incredible variation and unpredictability. Tamaki has demonstrated his strength on multiple occasions. He was able to effortlessly neutralize dangerous villains before they temporarily erased his Quirk. Tamaki's mettle was demonstrated when he faced Toya Setsuno, Yu Hojo, and Soramitsu Tabe of the Shie Hassaikai in a 3-on-1 fight and was confident that he could take on the Yakuza trio on his own.
ENHANCED SPEED: Tamaki has incredible reaction time when using his Quirk to attack or fight. During his and Eijiro Kirishima's internships with Fat Gum, Tamaki was able to quickly outpace both heroes and easily defeat two villains who were fleeing from the police.
ENHANCED DURABILITY: Tamaki makes sure to eat plenty of takoyaki and clams every day because he believes they are excellent for both offense and defense. He often uses his tentacle fingers to bind his opponents and defends himself using a clam shell. Tamaki also has a variety of other powerful combinations, including using chicken claws reinforced with octopus muscles or tentacle fingers reinforced with crab shells. Fat Gum firmly believes that Tamaki's abilities are above his own and those of an entire team of pro heroes and students, including the rest of the Big Three, Ryukyu, Eraserhead, and Rock Lock.

Manifest (再さい現げん Saigen): Tamaki's Quirk grants him the ability to manifest the characteristics of anything he has eaten. The more of a substance Tamaki eats, the stronger his manifestation becomes. Additionally, whatever he manifests is significantly stronger than normal, as seen by how his crab claws were able to easily crush metal weapons. He can only manifest the traits of substances that are still in his system, and loses access to those traits once the substance is fully digested. He needs to replenish his Quirk every day and must decide what foods to eat beforehand. After vigorous training at UA, Tamaki is able to use multiple manifestations at once, control the size of the manifestation, as well as being able to accurately choose the best characteristic of whatever he has eaten to suit any situation.
