The apartment was still almost empty. We only had a mattress on the floor, two backpacks, some boxes, and our few belongings. It wasn't much, but after running away from home, for him it meant we finally had a place we could call our own.

He sat on the edge of the mattress and stared at his hands.

—Sometimes I feel like I'm not doing enough.

Her voice sounded calm, but it was clear she had been thinking about it for a while.

—Look where we are… We have no furniture, we barely have our belongings, and I don't even know how long it will take for us to be financially stable. I feel like I should be able to give you more.

He lowered his gaze.

—And that's not all.

He took a deep breath.

"There are days when I feel insecure about everything. About my body, my voice, the way I look... I know I'm a man, but sometimes my mind makes me doubt myself."

He remained silent for a few seconds.

—I'm afraid that one day you'll look at me and think I'm not what you need. That you'll get tired of having to listen to my insecurities, or that you'll find someone who can give you something I can't.

She pressed her hands against her legs.

—I know we've been through so much to get here. We left our homes, started practically from scratch, and now we only have this safety net… but even so, I want this to work. I want to build a life with you.

He finally raised his gaze, still with some uncertainty.

—There's just one thing I need to know…

He paused.

—Am I man enough for you?
