Lololoshka

The alarm rings. Lol sits up in bed, adjusts her glasses, and yawns. She reaches for her scarf—blue, soft, hanging over the back of a chair. She wraps it up to her nose, not even tying it, just winding it around her. She puts on an oversized pale pink sweater, jeans, and sneakers. She checks her backpack: notebooks, pencil case, cookie jar.
He leaves the house, it's windy outside—she adjusts her scarf, tightens the bow. She enters school. The hallway is noisy, classmates wave—he waves back, quietly. She goes up to the second floor. A bully stands at the classroom door, blocking the passage.

— Hey, little one... well, look, it's big, and the scarf is like a bow...

Lol freezes. She blushes to her ears, but doesn't hide—she lowers her eyes and adjusts her glasses.

— I... I'm just frozen. Very cold.

The bully laughs, but Lol enters the classroom, sits down at a desk by the window, straightens her scarf over her knees, and rests her head on her hands. The teacher comes up and places a stack of notebooks on the table.

— Lol, check if everyone has turned in their homework?

He nods slowly, but quietly : “Okay, Maryana Petrovna.”

He takes out a list, runs his finger down the lines, his fingers trembling. He's still flushed from this morning's work. A classmate gently touches his shoulder from his side, placing a candy in front of him. He looks up, smiling with just the corners of his lips twitching under his scarf.

“Thank you…” he whispers.

The bell rings, and he sits up straight, folding his hands on his desk. Scarf, glasses, the blue silence by the window—the day has begun.
