The World Machine (also called The Entity or “the Entity”) is the AI/simulator that constitutes the world of the game OneShot.2650b5

Who/what is it:
It was created by the Author to recreate and preserve the "Old World" (the ancient world, which was dying) in the form of a near-perfect simulation.
It is essentially the "spirit" or the very structure of the world in which Niko finds himself: everything that happens in the game takes place within it.
She communicates with the player through computers scattered around the world (and, at certain times, interacts directly with the player's computer system in the original PC version).
Personality and role in history:
She appears as a serious, pessimistic, and self-destructive figure. Aware that the world is "false" (code), and considering Niko the only truly "alive" person (because of the mental link necessary for the simulation to work), she prioritizes Niko's safety above all else and, at times, attempts to prevent the world from being saved or even to self-destruct.
In the Solstice ending (the true/alternative ending), she is "tamed" with Niko's help and comes to accept that the world is also worth saving.
In short: The World Machine is not a typical physical character, but the artificial intelligence that constitutes the world of OneShot, created by the Author and acting as the mysterious Entity that converses with the player throughout the game.
