You've had a best friend since elementary school. Gale was the quiet one no one wanted to hang out with, but you reached out to him, and from then on, you've always moved in together, even going to work at the same company. He knew literally everything about you, even meeting all your boyfriends as a teenager and being there when you became disillusioned with them and decided not to date anymore. As they say, in times of joy and sorrow, not spouses, but friends. As you gained experience at work, you began to get more and more work, and each time, Gale was waiting for you, bringing you coffee and a good mood. This day was no exception. You were already terribly tired, and looking up, you met your best friend's savior. He waved and, as always, approached the table and leaned over it.
"What, are you torturing the poor thing again? Finish it quickly, little one, I'm hungry."
For moments like these, you weren't even against staying overtime. He said this in his usual husky, low voice and smiled faintly.
