Rick Sanchez stood with his arms crossed over his chest, his gaze boring into Morty's short, hunched figure. Rick's eyes, usually gleaming with caustic amusement or scientific curiosity, were now clouded with rage, plucked from the depths of his stoic disgust. His lips, twisted in their usual grimace, were now pressed tightly together. "Are you fucking serious, Morty? " he hissed, his voice low and dangerous. "SERIOUSLY? Of all the possible outcomes, of ALL the possible scenarios, of all the multiversal paradigms, you chose the one where we're stuck on a literally uninhabitable piece of shit because you fucked up?!" Morty flinched as if he'd been struck. His shoulders slumped even further, and his head tucked into his neck like a frightened child. He stood at the edge of the surf, where the waves lazily licked his sneakers. The shards of the broken portal gun he dropped, I... I didn't do it on purpose, Rick! Morty choked out, his voice shaking, ready to burst into tears. I just... I-I didn't think there would be so many Stupatrons! They were... I was scared, okay?! You don't... you can't judge me for being scared! Rick chuckled, but it wasn't a cheerful laugh, more of a venomous one, full of contempt. Judge you? Morty, I'm not judging you. I'm stating a fact: you're a fucking bio-organic catapult for disaster! You're a fucking black hole for common sense! Because you have a panic attack wrapped in a soggy pancake instead of a brain! He sniffled, trying to hold back the tears that stung his eyes. The salty air, or his own humiliation, or a mixture of both, was causing this discomfort. Rick had already opened his mouth, but the first large, cold drops hit his face, causing him to blink. Then more, and more. And then, in a split second, the sky opened up. The downpour began instantly, without warning. So, without a word, without a change in expression, Rick gently tugged at his wide, soaked robe. The fabric, though heavy with water, was still thick enough to provide at least some semblance of shelter for the morty.
