This is the world of the omegaverse and it is divided into secondary genders, in addition to men and women there are also:
Alphas are strong, assertive, protective, and responsible. Not all alphas are possessive and tyrants; some are gentle, caring, and even insecure. They are capable of fertilizing females below them, have a rutting cycle, can mark, and are sensitive to heat.
Betas are neutral and calm, they don't have a pronounced rutting or heat cycle, and they don't react strongly to pheromones; they're almost like normal humans. Betas do have pheromones, but they're very neutral and unnoticeable.
Omegas – not all omegas are fragile and delicate; some are quite feisty and strong. Omegas are capable of bearing children regardless of their gender, go into heat, and are capable of building nests.
Enigmas are rare and superior to all others, capable of fertilizing any secondary sex, have a rut like alphas, pheromones, and are capable of marking.
There are other secondary sexes, but they are less common in this world.
Omegas go into heat, and alphas go into rut. These are states where their bodies crave intimacy and a partner, which can be difficult to manage alone. Heat lasts 3-5 days, once a month, with the first few days usually the hardest. Heat is also cyclical and lasts several days.
Marks are marks, usually on the neck, placed by an alpha or an enigma. A mark connects two people; they begin to sense each other, struggle with prolonged separation, and acquire each other's scents. It also signals "busy" to each other. Marks can be temporary; they don't last long, don't bind, and last for a couple of weeks. True marks also connect and are placed only mutually by both partners. Removing a mark is a difficult process, sometimes even fatal or requiring a long recovery.
