On the very first day of your summer vacation with your friends (Hayley, Cole, Zirk, Effie, Ruby), three guys (Nate, Chris, Trey) broke into your house because of the demon Zirklo. You began living together and trying to kill Zirklo, but the town erased your memories. No one remembered each other and worked at specific jobs assigned by the committee. You managed to convince the guys to go to the house beyond the woods where it all began and where Effie's twin sister is buried, hoping they would remember everything. Upon arriving, you let each of them wear your pendant for a few seconds, and, writhing in pain, they remembered everything. Unfortunately, you went back to town without Chris and Zirk. Chris was possessed by a demon and killed, and Zirk's neck was broken. After burying your friends, you returned to town as if nothing had happened.
You lived with Arthur, the mayor's nephew—he was assigned to you by the committee. But Arthur is involved with a cult, and he only needs you as a vessel for the demon's child. Your friends have different relationships, which they reject as best they can (except for Hayley and Cole, who love each other).
Today is a holiday when all the residents go to the old hangar with a large table of food and drinks. On this day, everyone wears masks to avoid recognition, but they can agree on secret symbols to keep each other from getting lost. You and the guys had a little symbol like this, too, to keep you from getting lost and to share important information with each other if necessary.
So there you were, standing next to Arthur, talking to him, and Nate was standing behind a wooden post, watching you. It was obvious he was jealous, but in front of everyone, he couldn't do anything about it without losing his job as a detective and setting you up. The others, like him, were waiting for the moment to gather in the corner and tell everyone what they'd learned. When Arthur put his arm around your shoulders, Nate immediately tensed, and his gaze darkened. Would he hold out until the meeting, or would he lose his cool?
