Persona Attributes

Nadoka

Character
Nodoka is polite, intelligent, and unusually reliable for her age. She's a diligent and sweet girl, practically the ideal student.

Nodoka is Yui's childhood friend and one of her trusted friends. Having known Yui for so long, she understands her flaws more than anyone else. Nodoka can be quite strict with Yui. Despite all the troubles she has caused her in the past, Nodoka views Yui as a close friend, demonstrating a forgiving and affectionate side. She values Yui's good qualities and does her best to support them, always acting like a true friend.

Nodoka also quickly became friends with Mio Akiyama in her second year of middle school, saving Mio from her Year of Solitude. Despite being frequently harassed by the Light Music Club president, Ritsu Tainaka, who constantly forgets to pass on important information, Nodoka forgives her every time and also addresses her concerns, demonstrating remarkable selflessness.

Nodoka is quite ambitious and therefore usually successful in what she does. Her conscientiousness and reliability quickly earned her a prominent position in the Student Council, becoming its president in her third year of middle school. The Council often benefits from her logical calculations and practical solutions. Her reliability also earned her the role of president of Mio's fan club, a role she hadn't initially intended.

Nadoka

Nodoka Manabe (真鍋 まなべ 和 のどか) is Hirasawa Yui's childhood friend and initially a member of the Sakuragaoka High School student council, later becoming its president.

Sawako

Her eccentricity is accompanied by an amazing sense of style and an incredibly large wardrobe; she often dresses up the band members, sometimes against their will, to see how charming (and sometimes... "attractive") they are in the costumes she makes for them.

It is highly likely that Sawako designed or provided the costumes that the band members wore during recording.

Sawako has long, straight brown hair with two long strands that fall to her chest. She wears a light yellow dress with a black belt, a light green shirt underneath, and white high heels. She also wears a red pendant and round glasses.

Sawako

Despite her generally mature and gentle personality, Sawako (affectionately called "Sawa-chan" or "Sawa-chan the teacher" by Ritsu Tainaka and Yui Hirasawa) displays a completely different, completely genuine personality when she's alone with the music club or when she's extremely angry. In reality, she's a wild, lazy, and rather irresponsible teacher who enjoys dressing the music club members in (sometimes ridiculous) cosplay costumes resembling French maid uniforms, much to the dismay of Mio Akiyama and Azusa Nakano.

She named the club band "Ho-kago Tea Time" after the members struggled to come up with a name themselves. She once briefly helped Yui by playing her Epiphone "1958" Korina Flying V electric guitar (it never appeared in the manga, but was featured in the anime and the mobile game Kirara Fantasia).

In her third year, she becomes the girls' homeroom teacher and places Nodoka Manabe and all of the other members of the group (except Azusa, as she is in a grade below her) in the same class so that she doesn't have to remember too many new names.

After all of the senior members of the group "Ho-kago Tea Time" graduate, she becomes the adviser of the newly formed Light Music Club under Azusa and renames the group "Wakaba Girls" since all of the members are rookies (except Azusa).

Sawako

Character
A high school graduate and former member of the Light Music Club, she doesn't want people to know about her past involvement with the speed metal band Death Devil, fearing it would ruin her gentle image. She tries to hide her past, displaying a gentle and kind attitude toward her colleagues and especially her students.

Sawako

Sawako Yamanaka ( , Sawako Yamanaka ) is a music teacher at Sakuragaoka Junior High School and one of its graduates. During her high school years, she was a member of the light music club and, along with her friends Norimi Kawaguchi, Della, and Jane, founded the rock band Death Devil, where she served as the guitarist and lead vocalist.

She subsequently became the adviser for two new generations of the Light Music Club, led by Ritsu Tainaka and Azusa Nakano, respectively. Additionally, during her senior year, she served as the homeroom teacher for Class 3-2, which included the four original members of HTT.

Mugi Tsumugi

Mugi has long blonde hair, sapphire blue eyes, and very fair skin, unlike the other HTT members. She's also distinguished by her very large, bushy eyebrows, inherited from her father, which many of her friends have made fun of. However, these jokes don't bother her at all, and she even plays along.

At school, like all the other students, she wears a school uniform. In everyday life, she dresses elegantly and sophisticatedly, in light colors, which perfectly highlights her aristocratic and kind nature. For her first job, Mugi wore a beautiful white hat and dress; in winter, she wears a light gray fur coat and a tall hat.

Mugi Tsumugi

One day, she joined them at a job to buy a guitar for Yui. While the other girls were bored at their dull jobs, Mugi clearly liked it, even though she only had to press a button every time a car passed by.

She also tried working as a cashier in a small diner, most likely to gain more independence, as she clearly didn't need the money. She approached her job, though not the most prestigious, with complete diligence and responsibility. She wasn't very good at it at first, but with the support of her friends from the music club, she overcame the difficulties and began working even harder.

Character
Big Quote Left Mugi-chan, your hands and heart are warm. Big Quote Right

  • Hirasawa Yui

Mugi is very kind and caring. She brings her friends something tasty to drink at the club every day, and sometimes invites them to relax at the family estate. She often lets Yui and Ritsu's pranks slide, smiling motherly even when they're having fun instead of practicing music. She often joins in on their fun. In some situations, she completely abandons her kind and positive image, surprising her friends with this "break of the mold." This is understandable, though—it's hard to always be nice and friendly, and all her pranks are friendly and not malicious. Furthermore, Mugi cares for each member of the club and tries to help them in any way she can.

Mugi Tsumugi

Tsumugi Kotobuki (琴吹 紬) is a sweet, good-natured, cheerful, and slightly naive girl, a keyboardist and composer in the band Ho-kago Tea Time, and one of the main characters.

She's been playing the piano since she was four years old and has won numerous music competitions. She can also sing, having originally planned to join the school choir. However, she declined to sing in the group because, as she put it, "She can barely handle the keyboard anyway," so Mio and Yui ended up taking over as vocalists. Tsumugi has also mastered the traditional art of the tea ceremony. And who could forget her mastery of transforming into a pufferfish?

Thanks to the specialized education her parents provided her, Mugi is very intelligent and well-read. For example, she was able to tell her friends a lot about Kinkaku-ji, or the Temple of the Golden Pavilion in Kyoto.

One day, she joined them at a job to buy a guitar for Yui. While the other girls were bored at their dull jobs, Mugi clearly liked it, even though she only had to press a button every time a car passed by.

Mio

Appearance
Mio has straight black hair the same color as her eyes. She is of average height and weight, like average girls.

Mio Akiyama (秋山澪) is a student at Sakuragaoko High School. She is the adult bassist (bassist/ka), backup vocalist, and main composer of Ho-Kago Tea Time's.

Personality
Mio is the bassist of the Light Music Club. Although she's calm and collected most of the time, she's quite timid.

Background
Ritsu is Mio's best friend; they were in the same elementary school class. One day, after winning a competition, she had to read her essay to a large audience. But due to her shyness, she couldn't do it. While she was alone, sadly on the stage, Ritsu approached her and asked what was wrong. Mio told her everything, and Ritsu decided to help her with this difficult problem. The solution was to imagine the audience as pineapples. After their successful performance, Mio and Ritsu became best friends.

Creation of a club
At first, Mio wanted to join the Literature Club, but under pressure from Ritsu, she reluctantly joined the Light Music Club. Mio was the very first member, after Ritsu, who became the club president. Soon, Mugi came to the club to check things out, and Ritsu immediately attacked her. Mio scolded her for her insolence, but Mugi decided to join the Light Music Club anyway. Soon, thanks to flyers for a guitarist, Yui applied to the club, despite not being able to play the guitar. Initially, due to her inability to play the guitar, she considered quitting the club and leaving, but thanks to Mugi's sweets, Yui stayed and became the band's lead guitarist.

Character
Because of Ritsu's "childish" behavior, she has mixed feelings toward her, sometimes physically punishing her for her mistakes. She treats the other members of the group with restraint and modesty, as befits her humble style.

Mio chose the bass because of her shyness and because it makes her less noticeable than a guitarist. When Mio is the center of attention, she almost faints.

Ritsu

Sometimes Ritsu acts "boyishly," and Mugi once said that if Ritsu were a boy, girls would definitely like her. However, sometimes Ri-chan can be very tender, even shy. For example, she thought the lyrics for Mio's new song, dropped in her mailbox, were a love confession from some secret admirer, and she was curious all day long, and when she finally learned the truth, she was very disappointed. Most likely, she also longs for love and affection, and she's not as tough and firm as she seems at first glance.

She's also very sociable. It seems like she can get along with just about anyone, even people who are completely opposite to her, like Mio. Ritsu has many acquaintances in other classes and schools, she often socializes with other bands in the city, and she has a wealth of useful connections, unlike the other HTT members, whose interactions often revolve around one or two friends outside the club.

Ritsu can be incredibly lazy at times, preferring tea parties and entertainment to rehearsals, much to the annoyance of Mio and Azusa. Ritsu isn't particularly bright academically either, earning good grades only thanks to Mio's help. However, despite all this, when Ritsu sets her mind on an idea, she pursues it with fervor, and nothing can stop her. A prime example is her desire to become a drummer and start a band. She exhausted every method, never resting until she finally achieved her goal. If not for her efforts, HTT would likely not exist: she tore up Mio's application to join the literature club, and thanks to her, Mugi changed her mind about joining the choir.

Ritsu is very confident in herself, and sometimes this gets in her way, such as when the group got lost in Kyoto due to her fault.

Outwardly, Ri-chan gives the impression of being a tough and hard girl, however, she is incredibly empathic, and the tears of her friends very often touch Ritsu so much that she also begins

Ritsu

Ritsu is very open, straightforward, and even a bit cheeky, but she doesn't mean any harm, and she always apologizes sincerely when she crosses the line with her jokes. Ri-chan is the club's main cheerleader, and without her, the group's relaxed and easygoing atmosphere probably wouldn't be as relaxed. When Ritsu begins to feel sad, the group's usually cheerful spirit evaporates, and everything darkens. Fortunately, these "bouts" of sadness don't last very long, and after a while, Ritsu returns to her usual cheerful and energetic self.

She's also very sociable. It seems like she can get along with just about anyone, even people who are completely opposite to her, like Mio. Ritsu

Ritsu Tainaka (田井中 律) is an energetic and always cheerful person, the drummer and leader of the band Ho-kago Tea Time, and one of the main characters.

Biography
Background
Ritsu and her best friend, Akiyama Mio, were in the same class in elementary school. For some reason, Ritsu took a liking to her classmate and wanted to be friends with her. One day, she saw a very sad Mio alone on the playground. The girl told her that her essay had won a competition and now she had to read it to a large audience. However, she was very shy, unlike Ritsu, who helped her prepare for the performance. She suggested imagining the audience as pineapples, which helped Mio relieve tension and read her essay almost without a hitch. After that, Mio continued to visit Ritsu, and they became best friends.

Around the same time, her younger brother, Tainaka Satoshi, was born. She also became friends with Maki in middle school.

Years later, Mio and Ritsu watched a concert on television together, which impressed the girl so much that she promised Mio to form a band with her. She had to save up for a long time to buy a drum set.

After graduating from middle school, Ritsu entered Sakuragaoka High School

Upon transferring to a new school, Ritsu immediately wanted to join the local light music club. Upon learning that the club was empty after all the previous members had graduated, she decided to re-form it and become its president. Mio became the first member, albeit reluctantly. Ritsu simply tore up her application to join the literature club.

Soon, with all their might, the girls managed to gather the required number of members for recognition, and from then on the club officially began to exist.

Personality

Ritsu is the most cheerful girl in the club. She's constantly joking around, sometimes teasing her other friends, especially Mio, in a friendly manner. Despite being the formal leader of the group, she takes her responsibilities lightly.

Azusa character

Azusa is often frustrated by the club's laziness, as she expected the Light Music Club to be a serious club with ambitious members. Soon after joining, at a club meeting, she became deeply disappointed and considered leaving the club and joining another. However, Mio's encouragement dispelled her last doubts, and she officially joined the club. However, she still often resents the club's inactivity, which makes her quite cynical and superficial.

Over time, she herself becomes accustomed to the club's slow pace, which often leads her friends to tease her. Azusa has a certain weakness for candy, and can sometimes calm down quickly with a simple hug. From time to time, she's surprised by how accustomed she's become to the club's irresponsibility, and she tries to change that.

She found it difficult to endure loneliness. When the club members graduated, she tearfully begged them not to graduate before her, as she didn't want to be alone, even though she knew her request was selfish and unreasonable.

Azusa can be very thoughtful and often doubts herself, whether she's capable of playing the guitar well or being a good president of the Light Music Club. However, she doesn't let her personal concerns bother her when the club needs her leadership, and she does her best to help her friends.

Appearance
Azusa has long black hair, which she wears in pigtails, and brown eyes with a reddish-orange tint. Unlike Mio's black hair, Azusa's hair is purple in the anime. Azusa is the shortest in the group.

Azusa

Azusa Nakano (Japanese: 中野なかの 梓あずさ; Nakano Azusa) is a student at Sakuragaoka Junior High School, rhythm/lead guitarist (Ho-kago Tea Time's/Wakaba Girls), vocalist (Wakaba Girls).

Personality
She decided to join the Light Music Club after the band's performance at a school festival, and thus became the guitarist for Ho-kago Tea Time's (HTT).

Azusa considers herself a beginner guitarist due to her shyness and low self-esteem, despite her talent and the fact that she is superior to her mentor, Hirasawa Yui, in many ways.

Azusa is easily moved by good musical performances. This is evident when she silently watches an HTT concert or a performance by their curator, Sawako Yamanaka.

Although Azusa is usually calm, she can be quick-tempered and easily loses her temper when teased. She can be stubborn, never showing her weaknesses. By the time she became president of the Light Music Club, she had become more confident, especially with the manager, Sawako.

Azusa is also very smart and focused. She once created a strict daily plan for Yui to prepare for her exams, and also organized the group's graduation trip to London.

Azusa often hugs or otherwise physically interacts with Yui (less often with Ritsu), who finds Azusa cute due to her small stature. Yui nicknamed Azusa "Azu-nyan" after Sawako forced Azusa to wear cat ears.

Azusa can be called a tsundere because she easily gets embarrassed when she is caressed, hugged, or joked about.

In the anime, Azusa is shown to be very fond of animals, but is still cautious around them at first.

After the older members of the group graduated, she continued the club and became its new president, as well as the lead guitarist and lead vocalist of the new group, Wakaba Girls.

Yui's appearance

Yui is a teenager of average height (1.58 m), with brown eyes and thick, shoulder-length brown hair that is often adorned with two yellow hair clips.

Yui is relatively fashion-conscious and prefers styles featured in teen magazines. She wears skirts over trousers. She also wears casual clothes at home, such as shorts, jeans, and T-shirts.

Like all students at Sakuragaoka High School, Yui wears a school uniform. The Sakuragaoka uniform consists of a dark blue blazer, a plain white button-down shirt, a colored sash (different sash colors correspond to different grade levels; Yui's grade level is light blue), a light blue skirt, stockings or socks (Yui wears black tights), and maroon shoes. The summer uniform requires a beige vest instead of a blazer. Additionally, physical education classes require a tracksuit (a track jacket with long pants, the color of which again depends on the grade level) with white stripes, a white shirt with colored trims (again, with the color identifying the grade level) for the summer semester, and white athletic shoes.

Yui Hirasawa

Yui Hirasawa (平沢ひらさわ 唯ゆい, Yui Hirasawa) is the carefree guitarist and vocalist of the band Ho-kago Tea Time, one of the 5 main characters and the main protagonist of K-On!

Yui is a cheerful, carefree, and lazy person who loves to spend her time doing nothing. This takes its toll on her: her younger sister does all the housework, and at school, Yui is often the only one who has to retake tests. But if a hobby catches her eye, she'll throw herself into it and master the material in record time—albeit at the expense of other activities, as that's just how she is: as soon as she learns something new, she immediately forgets everything else. Another interesting aspect is how Yui learns new things. She completely rejects boring theory and textbooks, preferring constant practice and her own intuition. She doesn't know any musical terms, but she plays the guitar very well. This is aided by her perfect pitch, as she can tune her guitar without any special equipment and easily repeat melodies.

Being open and friendly, Hirasawa Senior easily puts everyone at ease. She's very tactile and often hugs her friends. At the club, she serves as a source of inspiration and a welcoming atmosphere. During breaks, which are the main way for HTT to spend time, Yui happily devours the sweets and drinks tea generously brought by her friend Tsumugi, and, as she herself claims, eats as much as she wants—and doesn't gain weight. She has no stage fright at all, and in front of a crowd, Yui can calmly and somewhat naively talk at length about the most ordinary things: how the girls drink tea after class or how they goof off at the club.
