Appearance
Mika is a slender young man. He has messy, medium-length black hair that appears dark green and sometimes even brown with highlights. His eyes have heterochromia; his right eye is a light gold, while his left is aquamarine. At school, he wears his school jacket unbuttoned over his navy blue sweater. His white shirt is unbuttoned and undone at the collar, and he wears a long-sleeved black shirt underneath. He wears a loose green tie around his neck, purple sneakers, and loose plaid pants.

Shu's name (宗) means "religion." It is also a spelling variant of 旨 (mune), which means "goal" or "purpose." This reflects Shu's grand ambitions as a character. The first character of his surname (斎) can be read as itsuki and means "sacred [Shinto] place." The second character (宮) means "shrine" or "palace."

The characters of her surname (斎宮) together can also be read as saiguu or itsukinomiya, which refer to the ancient imperial princesses who used to serve as high priestesses of the Grand Shrine of Ise.
