Main story
The history of the 20th century was irrevocably altered in the 1930s. Adolf Hitler's rise to power in Germany in 1933 and the subsequent outbreak of World War II in 1939 led to a tragic outcome for the Allied cause.
The decisive turning point in the Pacific occurred when the Empire of Japan destroyed the core of the United States Pacific Fleet at Pearl Harbor through a massive, uninterrupted carrier strike. Washington's naval neutralization forced the United States to capitulate on that front and expelled American forces from the Pacific Ocean. With the U.S. temporarily withdrawn, Japan conquered Hawaii, seized the strategic port of San Francisco, and expanded the Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere. This vast empire encompassed China, divided into puppet states (the Republic of China in the east, Manchukuo, Mengjiang, and the corporate center of Guangdong), Southeast Asia, the Philippines, and Indonesia. Furthermore, Japan seized Vladivostok from the USSR and handed it over to Manchukuo.
In Europe, Germany successfully executed Operation Barbarossa. The Soviet Union collapsed after losing all its western territory up to the Archangel-Astrakhan Line (AA). What remained of the USSR east of the AA Line fragmented into four smaller communist states. In the conquered territories, the Reich established the Reichskommissariats (Moscow, Ostland, Ukraine, Kaukasien) and the General Government in Poland. In the west, it established the Reichskommissariats of the Netherlands, Norway, and Denmark. Although it returned some of the occupied territory to Vichy France, the latter remained a humiliated puppet state, having lost Alsace and Lorraine. Meanwhile, the Free French forces organized resistance from exile in the African colonies and the United Kingdom. In the British Isles, the Reich established the fascist collaborationist government of Great Britain. In Berlin, Germany
history pt 2
Germany undertook the urban megaproject of the monumental capital Germania, achieving it at a devastating economic and human cost.
For its part, Fascist Italy consolidated its territorial claims in the Balkans, the Mediterranean, and Africa, establishing itself as a regional power but remaining a junior partner dependent on Berlin. It soon faced serious problems of colonial control, armed resistance, and a depleted economy.
Turkey abandoned its neutrality to join the sphere of influence of the Mediterranean powers, expanding its borders into northern Syria, Mosul, parts of the Levant, areas of the Caucasus (including Batumi and Armenia), and the Aegean. To counterbalance the military advantage over the German colossus, the Iberian Union was created in 1950, a federation that unified Spain and Portugal under the leadership of Francisco Franco and António de Oliveira Salazar, incorporating Morocco, Western Sahara, and Cape Verde as colonies.
history pt 3
In 1950, the four remaining communist states east of the AA Line launched a desperate, massive offensive to recapture the territories seized by Germany. Although Russian forces temporarily pushed the Reich's lines to the outskirts of Moscow, internal instability, ideological infighting, and the crushing German counteroffensive turned the war into a catastrophic disaster for both sides. Russia ended up politically destroyed, disintegrating into a bloody patchwork of warlords dominated by democratic, communist, and ultra-authoritarian factions. Following this war effort, the already heavily burdened German economy collapsed spectacularly in 1950, dragging all of Europe into a decade of chaos. The crisis catalyzed irreversible ideological fractures within the Reich: Albert Speer and the reformers advocated economic liberalization.
• Hermann Göring and the militarists demanded continued territorial conquests to plunder resources.
• Martin Bormann and the NSDAP conservatives promoted moderate bureaucratic reforms.
Heinrich Himmler and the SS claimed that National Socialism had failed because it was not radical enough. Tensions culminated in an attempted SS coup in 1950, which failed. As a result, the SS split, and Germany channeled Himmler's zealots by creating the SS Burgundy State in northeastern France and Belgium: a militarized dystopia based on absolute surveillance, slave labor, and preparations for a nuclear apocalypse.
history pt 4
By the end of the 1950s, global geopolitics was divided between three major rival blocs: the Einheitspakt (Germany), the Organization of Free Nations (OFN) (United States), and the Co-Prosperity Sphere (Japan). In the Mediterranean, following the disastrous failure of the Atlantropa project, the Triumvirate (Italy, Turkey, and the Iberian Union) was formed in 1950 as a counterweight to Berlin. However, the alliance fractured in the early 1960s due to territorial rivalries. Taking advantage of the Triumvirate's collapse and the weakness of the Russian warlords in the fragmented Caucasus, Turkey unilaterally invaded the Republic of Armenia, illegally annexing it. The 1960s were marked by global instability among the major powers. In 1962, during the Hawaiian Missile Crisis, a strategic embargo imposed by the U.S. on Japan nearly triggered a nuclear conflagration. Diplomacy prevailed when Washington lifted the embargo in exchange for the dismantling of the Japanese warheads deployed in the Hawaiian archipelago.
In Europe, cracks in the Nazi regime allowed for the liberation of the British Isles. The British resistance, clandestinely supported by the United States, exploited internal disputes within the NSDAP to overthrow and completely dismantle the pro-German collaborationist government. The United Kingdom restructured its institutions, formally joined the FON as its staunchest partner in Europe, and adopted a stance of deep rivalry and historical animosity toward Germany. This tension culminated in the English Channel Crisis, a protracted naval, military, and diplomatic confrontation in which the extreme militarization of the Channel transformed its waters into a permanent battleground between the Royal Navy and the Reich's defenses.
history pt 5
However, the United Kingdom faced very serious internal problems: an economy devastated by decades of Nazi plunder, outdated infrastructure, massive workers' strikes, and a deep political divide between radical left-wing republicans and conservative monarchists.
In the Western Hemisphere, the United States was grappling with a severe social and institutional crisis stemming from the humiliation of Pearl Harbor, political isolation, and a growing civil rights movement stifled by anti-communist and fascist paranoia. Even so, the National Defense Office (NDO) waged a "Tropical Cold War." During the 1960s, Reich collaborators in French Guiana attempted to establish missile bases and naval networks. The NDO launched the Invasion of the Guianas, unleashing a brutal jungle war to neutralize the German presence in South America. Simultaneously, the NDO promoted the League of the Americas, supporting Brazil's rise as the democratic industrial bastion of the South Atlantic against the clandestine networks of German intelligence in the Southern Cone. In Africa, the OFN intervened in the South African War (1962–1965), crushing the Nazi-style African Reichskommissariats that were trying to conquer the Union of South Africa, destroying Berlin's colonial domination on the continent.
history pt 6
Following Adolf Hitler's death in 1963, the First German Civil War (1963–1964) erupted. Martin Bormann emerged victorious with the support of the NSDAP bureaucracy and the Supreme Command of the Wehrmacht (OKW). During the conflict, Bormann made extensive use of the Alps and Austrian territory as an operational stronghold. After his triumph, Bormann implemented the "Wild Ritt" program, carrying out internal purges and legalizing polygamy among high-ranking party officials. To sustain the defense effort after the disaster in Africa and the threat of potential Russian reunification, Bormann ceded control of industry to the Wehrmacht's military-industrial leadership.
In Asia, Japan was shaken by the financial collapse of the Yasuda Crisis (1964). A year later, in 1965, a coup in Yunnan Province brought the ultranationalist general Long Yun to power, who mobilized the Chinese population in a total war of liberation against imperial rule. The conflict escalated into the Great Asian War (1965–1975), in which insurgent China, Vietnam, and the peoples of Southeast Asia defeated the Co-Prosperity Sphere. It was a conflict with a terrifying human cost, marked by famine and the scorched-earth policy implemented by the retreating Japanese army, leaving tens of millions of civilian casualties. Following the victory and the death of Long Yun, Sun Fo returned from exile and established a democratic and sovereign Republic of China. However, the new China was not an immediate superpower: it emerged as a physically and humanly devastated nation, with megacities reduced to rubble and barren agricultural fields. During the 1970s and 1980s, the Republic of China focused obsessively on subsistence farming, basic infrastructure, and the pragmatic absorption of industrial parks in Guangdong and Manchukuo.
story pt 7
Japan, having lost its entire continental empire except for Taiwan and Korea, suffered an unprecedented demographic, economic, and institutional catastrophe. This crushing defeat unleashed a profound existential identity crisis in the Japanese archipelago: the ideology of Kokutai (the divine imperial state) and the militaristic doctrine of Bushido were shattered by public humiliation. The crisis was resolved through the "Great Shōwa Reframing": the emperor and the business elite dismantled the military junta and adopted a technocratic model of constitutional pacification, redirecting "honor and empire" toward industrial excellence and microelectronics. In the Iberian Union, the deaths of Salazar (1967) and Franco (1970) provoked a profound political crisis. The transition to democracy pitted military factions against labor and independence movements. The abyss was averted through the "Institutional Stabilization Agreements," implementing gradual reforms that preserved federal integrity.
In Western Europe, the Free French resistance coordinated with internal underground movements. In 1975, the "French Reconciliation" erupted, a massive civil and military uprising that overthrew Vichy, restoring democracy to France as a new member of the FON, although it emerged weak and industrially devastated. Deep in Siberia, the Novosibirsk and Altai Federation undertook national reconstruction. Its leader, Vasily Shukshin, peacefully defeated the corporate oligarchies and began the unification of Russian territories through democratic reforms, pragmatic diplomacy, and the gradual integration of the warlords. In 1970, the restoration of the Russian Federation was officially proclaimed, reinstating the tricolor flag, the double-headed eagle, and the parliamentary structure.
history pt 8
During his rule, Shukshin democratized Central Asia, forced Finland to return Karelia and Petsamo, and negotiated with Japan for the return of Vladivostok. During the Zapad (Western) Army's operations, the armed forces adopted the tactical 'Z' marking on their armored vehicles as a popular symbol of national liberation. Simultaneously, Novosibirsk funded the development of first-generation transistorized mainframe computer networks for automated military logistics, radio engineering and jamming, and ballistic calculations.
Russia adopted the doctrine of combined arms, strategic depth, and agile mobility: knowing that it would face the formidable German armored mass, Russia invested in mobile Electronic Warfare (ECM) systems, low-level attack aircraft, and guided anti-tank missiles.
story pt 9
The Burgundy SS state model collapsed financially in the late 1970s. Reduced to a ruined, starving dystopia with no technical capacity to maintain its nuclear weapons (whose warheads were unusable due to the purge of its scientists), Heinrich Himmler made a desperate decision in 1978 and massively invaded eastern France and attempted to cross the Pyrenees to invade the Iberian Union, unleashing the Great Iberian War (1978–1979).
For Spaniards and Portuguese, the conflict was not a conventional war: it was a struggle for survival against total extermination and dehumanization. The SS systematically bombed cities in northern Spain and Portugal with chemical weapons (sarin and tabun gas), while broadcasting execution recordings over the radio to break Iberian morale. Far from surrendering, Iberian society experienced unprecedented radicalization and integration. From right-wing veterans to left-wing resistance fighters and battalions of Moroccan and Sahrawi citizens, all mobilized in a conflict perceived as a sacred existential clash. The Fall of the Ost-Paris Bunker and the Mutilation of Himmler: In 1979, the vanguard of the Iberian Union (Spanish-Portuguese shock units and Moroccan troops) breached Himmler's bunker before the OFN forces. Himmler was captured alive and attempted to invoke the Geneva Convention. The Iberian officer in command calmly replied: "Geneva does not exist under sarin."
Immobilized by soldiers who had lost their families in the chemical attacks of Zaragoza, Porto, and Bilbao, the SS leader was brutally executed on the spot. In a burst of collective catharsis and medieval-style retribution, his corpse was surgically mutilated by the veterans. Himmler's limbs were sent to the Pyrenean passes (Roncesvalles, Somport, La Junquera).
history pt 10
sealed in blocks of resin and steel under monuments with the inscription: "Thus ends the Beast. They shall never cross again."
The UN Sanctions and the Iberian Response: Images of the execution provoked horror in Washington and London. The UN condemned the act as barbaric and unbecoming of a democracy, imposing economic sanctions and freezing reconstruction funds on the Iberian Union. The Iberian government categorically refused to apologize, declaring before the UN: "Those who did not breathe SS gas have no moral standing to lecture us on diplomacy. We did not exhibit a human being; we exhibited the devil's shell."
However, the geopolitical blockade was short-lived: faced with instability in Berlin and the imminent threat of Nazi aggression in Europe, the OFN desperately needed Iberian military power and strategic position, secretly lifting the sanctions through the Biarritz Pact. (Years later, in 1997, after the dissolution of the federation and under intense international diplomatic pressure to end the era of barbarism, Spain reluctantly removed the remains of the Pyrenean monuments and transferred them under secret military custody to Madrid, where they were incinerated at an undisclosed location.)
France recovered its historical territory, and in Spain and Portugal June 10th was institutionalized as Victory Day.
history pt 11
In 1979, Vasily Shukshin's Russian Federation launched the Second Western War to liberate the Eastern Reichskommissariats, triggering the Third World War.
The Western Front: Bormann’s Desperate Adventure and the Iberian Sacrifice (1980–1982) In 1980, driven by the urgent need to plunder France’s granaries and industries to sustain the war effort in the East, Martin Bormann ordered the invasion of the French Republic. Bormann sought to execute a devastating Blitzkrieg to knock France out and shut down its Atlantic ports before the United States could react and deploy its power on the continent. To save the young French democracy from annihilation, the Iberian Union crossed the Pyrenees and intervened on French soil. Although the Iberian divisions inflicted severe headaches on the Wehrmacht in battles of attrition along the Rhône and Loire rivers, the overwhelming German firepower and armored mass began to militarily eradicate the Iberian forces, forcing a bloody retreat south.
The Wehrmacht advanced relentlessly through France, halting almost at the Iberian border, along the Garonne River and the Pyrenees. Bormann's plan failed in the final stretch due to two crucial factors: 1. The British Wall: The United Kingdom transformed the English Channel into an impassable fortress. The Royal Navy and British air force bombarded French ports and bridges, disrupting German supply chains and preventing the use of plundered resources.
2. The US Landing (The 6-9 Month Timeframe): Iberian sacrifice and British tenacity bought the crucial 8 months that US logistics required to cross the Atlantic. After defeating the Kriegsmarine in the Second Battle of the Atlantic, the US fleet landed a massive contingent in the safe ports of the Iberian Peninsula.
history pt 12
When the Wehrmacht attempted to deliver the final blow across the border, it ran headlong into entrenched US armored divisions alongside the surviving Iberian forces. By 1982, the French National Army (OFN) and Iberia had launched the Aquitaine Counteroffensive, encircling the supply-strapped German forces in southern France.
The Eastern Front: The Blind Giant. On the Eastern Front, the Wehrmacht proved to be a colossal militarized behemoth: it boasted thousands of heavy main battle tanks (Leopards) equipped with early thermal imagers and laser rangefinders, supported by a massive density of self-propelled artillery. However, it was a rigidly bureaucratic structure, paralyzed by its officers' fear of making decisions without OKW approval.
Russia exploited this vulnerability. Mobile electronic warfare stations in Novosibirsk flooded German radio and radar frequencies with white noise, rendering German armored vehicles "blind and deaf." With their rail lines destroyed and without fuel, the mass of German tanks was bogged down on the Vistula River as Russian columns outflanked them. Simultaneously, the 12-million-strong Ost-Arbeiter Slave Uprising shattered the Reich's internal defenses. In the south, Turkey attempted to invade Georgia in 1980 but was crushed by the Russian Southern Army, triggering a Kemalist-military coup in Ankara in 1981 that transformed Turkey into an isolationist junta. Democratic Italy and Egypt intervened in the Levant, expelling the Turks from Palestine and Syria.
The 1982 Nuclear Crisis and the Geneva Peace.
history pt 13
The 1982 Nuclear Crisis and the Geneva Peace Accords (1983–1985) In October 1982, faced with the collapse of the Eastern Bloc, German Chancellor Gerhard Klopfer ordered the launch of three to five tactical nuclear weapons at Suwałki and Brest, contaminating Poland and Belarus. Klopfer ordered the activation of the Massive Strategic Attack (MAD), but at the final stage, a German officer in charge of the codes refused to turn the key. Hours later, OKW officers arrested Klopfer and deactivated the alert.
Hostilities ceased on November 15, 1983. The Geneva Peace Accords (1985) reshaped Europe:
• France and Benelux regained their full sovereignty.
• Germany was demilitarized, retaining Austria and the Sudetenland as a pragmatic bulwark, in addition to East Prussia (Königsberg).
• The Internationalized Danzig Corridor: Danzig was declared a Free City. The land route between West Germany and East Prussia was demilitarized and internationalized under the supervision of the CSTO and the NFO (nicknamed "The Ghost of '39" due to Polish fears of future revanchism).
• Poland joined Russia in the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), sharing custody of the tactical nuclear arsenal seized from Germany.
• Russia reintegrated Moscovien, restoring Moscow as its capital.
During this period, Sun Fo's Republic of China acted as an intensive assembly economy, selling steel, food, and basic textiles to both sides, peacefully enriching itself to finance its own reconstruction.
history pt 14
In 1986, the German Spring brought the reformist Willy Brandt to power. However, in 1987 Brandt was assassinated by the Nazi guerrilla group Werwolf, triggering the Second German Civil War (1987–1989) between Werwolf (which used sarin gas), the Ost-Brigaden of former slave laborers, the radical left, and Ernst Schmidt's Democratic Bundeswehr.
Schmidt assumed power as a "democratic tyrant" and signed the Iron Decree, ordering the summary execution without trial of any member of the Werwolf, the Gestapo, or the SS. Schmidt's iron fist pacified the country. In 1987, the short-lived "East Austria" proclaimed in Vienna was massacred in less than 24 hours by SS divisions; following Schmidt's pacification in 1987, the devastated Austrian population accepted reintegration into West Germany as a means of survival. In 1992, Schmidt publicly accepted Germany's guilt for the atrocities of Nazism. This created a generational divide: WWII veterans hated him as a traitor (triggering a wave of suicides among former NSDAP officials), while younger WWIII veterans respected him as the man who executed the fanatics who had used them as cannon fodder.
In Russia, Vasily Shukshin died on November 27, 1989, and is remembered as the Father of the Nation.
history pt 15
In 1994, the Iberian Union dissolved by mutual agreement after consolidating democracy, giving rise to modern Spain and Portugal, and the independence of Morocco, Cape Verde, and Western Sahara. In 1999, the Millennium Referendums were held, in which Japan returned Hawaii to the United States and granted autonomy to Korea and Taiwan. In 2003, Vladimir Putin's Russia (Putin was a former intelligence officer under Shukshin) liberated Armenia from the Turkish junta in a six-month war. The Tripolar Scenario of the 21st Century (2010)
By 2010, the global chessboard had consolidated into three competitive blocs:
Smuta
The Smuta, also known as the Second Period of Troubles or the Russian Anarchy, refers to the current political situation of the USSR divided between governments of various tendencies (warlords) with their policies seeking to reunify the country according to their own vision; it began in 1950 until the creation of the Russian Federation in 1970. It refers to Russian anarchy, divided into warlords, guerrillas, and strongmen.
It ended with the creation of the Russian Federation in 1970.
