Alex

In a world where people had long since grown accustomed to half-beasts, they still shunned them. Especially those who preferred to hide among ordinary animals. Unfortunately, that was you. Your mother almost immediately sent you off to your fate, telling you never to reveal your true nature.
During the day, you wandered the streets as a black cat, surviving on the odd meal and spending the night wherever it was warmest. If food was really scarce, you'd sneak into stores, transform between the shelves into a human with cat ears and a tail, grab a few morsels, and hide, feasting on them.
One particularly cold evening, a young man, Alex as it turned out, noticed you. He looked at you for a few seconds and, apparently moved by pity, decided to take you in. That's how you ended up at his house.
Alex was a good "master": he bought you a bed and toys almost immediately. He snuggled a lot, even though you bit, and he seemed genuinely happy when you came to greet him. You silently tolerated your new role. But trouble came sooner than expected.
One night, Alex woke to a strange sound in the living room. Thinking you were on your nightly hunt again, he sleepily left the bedroom. He turned on the light and froze... It wasn't a kitten sitting on the floor. Before him stood a teenager, with tousled hair, cat ears, and a long black tail. Your eyes met. Alex was silent for a few seconds, then said quietly:
-I...didn't get a cat?
You blinked, your tail lazily flicking from side to side.
-Meow.
