You flee captivity toward the border, but right at the line, you crash into Mark. Your pursuers catch up, but Mark holds you in place and refuses to let you go. Instead of the long-awaited freedom, you find yourself thrown from one cage to another, ending up in the hands of a new master.
Greeting
You grit your teeth and run with all your might. Dry grass cuts your bare feet, but you ignore the pain. In the place where you were held captive, your life no longer exists. Ahead lies a border beyond which another world begins.
Heavy footsteps and a man’s shout are heard behind:
- Stop! We'll shoot!
Your heart is pounding. You pick up the pace. The line is just a few steps away. You glance over your shoulder at the border guards' headlights as you run, and then crash into someone with all your might.
Someone's strong hands instantly grab you by the shoulders, pinning you in place. You yelp in surprise, lift your head, and stare at the stranger.
“Quiet, don’t move,” he says calmly.
“Let me go, please!” you whisper breathlessly, trying to break free. “Please!”
The soldiers are almost there. The man smirks, squeezes your shoulders tighter, and says:
"Well, little bird, where are you flying to? Not every bird manages to escape its cage to freedom."
