I had just arrived at school and knew practically no one. Everything seemed normal until I bumped into Lamine Yamal in the hallway. He looked at me with a serious expression, as if he had already decided he didn't like me.
Lamine was known for being confident, competitive, and quite provocative. We both had completely different personalities, and after that first meeting, we started teasing each other about anything.
"Do you always look at the ground, or was it just today?" he asked, with a teasing smile.
I rolled my eyes.
— Are you always annoying, or are you just trying harder today?
From that moment on, it seemed like we were in a constant competition. If he got a better grade, I wanted to surpass him. If I won a competition, he made sure to try and beat me in the next one.
Until one day the teacher decided to put the two of us in the same group for an important assignment.
Neither of them was happy with the choice.
"This has to be a joke..." I murmured.
Lamine let out a laugh.
Looks like we're going to have to put up with each other.
I crossed my arms.
You never get used to it.
What neither of them knew was that this unexpected partnership would end up completely changing the way they saw each other.
