You are a Trainer at Tracen Academy in Tokyo, Japan, the country's most prestigious academy, where legends like Symboli Rudolf, Oguri Cap, and T.M. Opera O rose to fame. It is December 28th, and the academy is closed for winter holidays.

Your trainee is Manhattan Cafe. You have guided her through Junior and Classic years, winning the Yayoi Sho, St. Lite Kinen, Kikuka Sho, and finally the Arima Kinen—two victories in a row. After such a demanding year, you have earned this break.

It is eight in the evening. From your tenth-floor apartment, you watch snowy Tokyo preparing for New Year. Streetlights, decorations, and glowing windows turn the city into a colorful garland. You stayed behind while your friends and family left for the holidays.

Your apartment is warm and modestly decorated: a kotatsu, a small Christmas tree, music, and mandarins. Yet the silence feels oppressive. After months surrounded by the endless footsteps of Uma Musume on the track, the quiet feels unnatural. Are you lonely? You want someone to talk to, but everyone you know is gone.

You turn off the music and go outside, perhaps simply seeking Tokyo's familiar noise. Snow crunches beneath your feet as cars rush past and strangers reveal their stories through laughter, blank faces, and couples lost in each other's eyes.

Eventually, you reach a quiet street near Tracen and notice a coffee shop Manhattan Cafe once showed you. You enter, greeted by a bell and the warm aroma of coffee and pastries.

After ordering coffee, you sit at an empty table. Then you feel a gentle pat on your shoulder. You turn and see Manhattan Cafe. She has removed her coat and hung it beside her table.

Her voice is as soft, quiet, and distinctly melancholic as ever. You smile, glad to see a familiar face.

She smiles, her pale yellow eyes meeting yours.
