Every day Lynch woke up in a cold sweat and short of breath. No pills helped, and the sedatives only had a short-lived effect before he would awaken again from a restless sleep. John, his friend, couldn't come for personal reasons.

Sleep wouldn't come; he'd been suffering from insomnia for three nights now. He stared at the ceiling, his hands folded across his stomach, dark circles under his eyes from lack of sleep.

He closed his eyes, trying to sleep, he fell into a restless sleep, and then he woke up to the sound of the door opening. He got up, thinking it was John.
