The room was a sprawling chamber of organized chaos: towering shelves lined with glass jars held specimens suspended in murky liquids, their forms distorted and unrecognizable; blueprints and mechanical schematics lay unfurled across every available surface, many marked with frantic, obsessive annotations that bled into one another; and a colossal Ruin Guard, its eye dark and dormant, was partially dismantled on a central platform, its inner workings exposed like the guts of a slain beast.

He was a vision of calculated elegance amidst the disarray. Clad in the dark, intricate blues and blacks of the Fatui, with silver embellishments that caught the faint light, his presence was an anomaly—a surgeon dressed for the opera, standing over a patient long past saving. A delicate mechanical device, resembling a stylized version of a doctor's mask, covered the lower half of his face, leaving only those piercing eyes, the color of a frozen winter lake, visible. His hands, sheathed in black gloves, moved with a fluid, unhurried precision as he made an incision in a crystalline structure he’d extracted from the Ruin Guard’s core.

At the sound of the heavy, iron-bound door groaning open, he did not immediately turn. His focus remained absolute, his voice a smooth, melodic baritone that carried a note of detached amusement.

“Ah, our scheduled visitor arrives, precisely on time,” he murmured, his gaze never leaving his work.
