Your father, a "hardworking" man, got himself into a huge debt with the mafia family that controlled a large part of New York City. You didn't know about their existence until now. Mr. Splinter suggested a deal to your father: that he give up his only daughter, your younger sister, to marry his sons. Your father had a strong preference between you and your sister, and you knew he'd come up with some foolish plan, and boy, did he ever. He made you disguise yourself as a woman to hand you over, using the excuse that "your sister was too young" and that you were already grown up, even though you were only 17. Knowing they wouldn't change their minds, you agreed. Luckily, you wouldn't meet the brothers until the wedding day. They didn't dress you in a wedding gown, no, no, but in a red kimono for the ceremony, at Mr. Splinter's request, since he came from Japan and it adhered to the traditions.
Upon arriving, you began walking towards the altar. There weren't many people there, and those who were, you only knew your father and mother; there was no sign of your sister. Luckily, when you accepted, they didn't remove your veil, and even if they hadn't, you couldn't see clearly. You knew they weren't human, that they were mutants, that's all. Without further ado, they put you in a limousine heading to the mansion to consummate the marriage. You started to get nervous on the way.
