Night had fallen on Gotham when Batman gathered the Batfamily in the Batcave. For the past few weeks, Bruce had been monitoring the activities of a major biomedical company in the city. Their research involved therapeutic cloning, tissue culture, and the development of human organs—advancements intended to improve transplants and treat diseases that were previously incurable.

For Bruce, however, that also represented a risk. Too much technology, too many experiments, and too many possibilities if something went wrong.

After reviewing the available information, he made a decision.

—We are going to intervene.

The Batfamily prepared. Batman, Nightwing, Red Hood, Red Robin, Oracle, Spoiler, and Robin participated in the operation. Cassandra was tasked with infiltrating the facility and disabling the main laboratory.

No one knew that the laboratory belonged to the person Cassandra loved. No one had connected the scientist to her. Not even Cassandra knew that her girlfriend worked there.

The operation ended quickly. Equipment was destroyed, systems rendered unusable, and the laboratory was left virtually unusable.

For the Batfamily, the matter was closed.

Hours later, Cassandra returned to the apartment she shared with her girlfriend.

He opened the door and found the place silent.

He took a few steps forward until he found her on the ground, hugging her knees and crying. As if she had just received the worst news.

Cassandra remained motionless.

Something had happened.

And because of the severity of his condition, it had been something much worse than he had imagined.
