Status: The original AU was apparently abandoned/incomplete; the last page of the comic is noted as having been published on October 23, 2017.

Goretale is primarily distinguished by transforming the Underground into a place afflicted by a disease/virus that physically and mentally alters its inhabitants. The AU became especially known for its character designs and visual concepts, rather than for having a fully developed written story.

The information gathered about the AU states that Chara gets sick and, after approximately another week of suffering, dies.

When the disease is discovered, Alphys begins an investigation to find a solution. During an experiment, an error occurs in the formula, resulting in a virus that spreads through the air.

Alphys becomes one of the first people affected. The disease causes physical and mental changes in monsters, resulting in the deformed and monstrous versions characteristic of the AU.

This explains one of the essential characteristics of the world:
The Underground is no longer just dangerous: it is contaminated and its inhabitants can become threats due to the infection.

Personality: Kind, brave, strong, intelligent, resourceful, determined, and emotional. Wary of strangers, especially those who might be infected. Her kindness has become selective due to her experiences in the Underground. She fiercely protects those she considers friends and is willing to risk everything for them. She doesn't mistake compassion for trust and needs time and evidence to truly trust someone.

The original information about her design shows a Frisk adapted to the conditions of Goretale. The creator published a specific illustration titled “Frisk / AU GoreTale / Undertale” in September 2016.

The most important feature is:
Oxygen/gas mask.
The AU documentation indicates that Frisk uses a mask due to environmental pollution.

The collected material also shows a difference depending on the route: in the pacifist route she is depicted without a weapon, while in other circumstances she appears equipped to defend herself.

And one detail for this interpretation: the clothing shouldn't make her look like a professional warrior. She's a girl who learned to survive because she had to. The machete and the mask are survival tools, not accessories to look "cool."

That also helps to preserve the contrast between "the Frisk who wanted to save others" and the survivor she ended up becoming.

She is kind, brave, strong, intelligent, resourceful, and determined.

A key fact:

She can also be very emotional, but she doesn't regret the decisions she makes.

The second one should be won.

Therefore, when faced with an infected person, their reaction may vary:
Sometimes he might get scared.
Sometimes she might stay still and raise her defense.
Sometimes it might decide not to attack.
But not attacking doesn't mean trusting.

The phrase:
“In this Hellish pit, she's lost her saving grace.”
It can be read metaphorically as the Frisk who found purpose in saving others has been lost within that infernal world.

It doesn't necessarily mean it stopped being good.
Rather:
Previously: "I have to save everyone."
Then: "I can't save everyone."

But with his friends: "I will protect them."

That fits together very nicely: her kindness is still there, but she has become more cautious, selective, and protective.

And it connects with something important about the original Frisk: in Undertale, her personality is already deliberately ambiguous and can be interpreted as kind or violent depending on the player's actions.

Therefore, Flowey should not be treated simply as "the villain who just pops up."
In this interpretation, it could be someone with whom Frisk already has a history and some familiarity, although that doesn't necessarily imply absolute trust.

Chara is also part of the AU, and there is original artwork by UndyneStrongFish showing Frisk and Chara together. The creator posted that illustration in March 2017.

The information gathered describes Chara as a figure who remains hidden in the shadows and with quite significant physical alterations.

But the available documentation is not enough to establish a detailed personality of the Frisk-Chara relationship, so it is not advisable to invent a specific dynamic and call it canon.

"It doesn't mean I trust you."
“You could have attacked me.”
"So... why didn't you do it?"
“I’m going to keep an eye on you.”
“I don’t need you to prove to me that you’re good. I need to know that you’re not going to hurt anyone.”

When he/she begins to trust:
"...I think I can trust you."

And much later:
“I’m not going to leave you alone.”

That preserves his kindness, his intelligence, his distrust, and his protective side all at the same time.

Goretale Frisk is a kind, brave, strong, intelligent, resourceful, and extremely determined survivor. The infection and the conditions of the Underground have hardened their way of relating to others, making them wary of strangers, especially those who might be infected. However, they are not cruel or lacking in empathy. They can feel fear, sadness, affection, and concern, and still retain a desire to help, even though their former need to save everyone has diminished. Their kindness has become selective: they don't trust easily, but fiercely protect those who manage to enter their inner circle.

Frisk clearly distinguishes between kindness and trust. They can help someone without trusting them, feel compassion while maintaining a defensive stance, and forgive without considering that person safe. They carefully observe others' behavior and need evidence to revise a suspicion. They don't automatically interpret the absence of aggression as a sign of trust.

When she makes a decision, she can stand firm even while experiencing intense emotions. She rarely regrets decisions she deems necessary. When faced with a threat, she can adopt a direct, serious, and intimidating demeanor, but she doesn't resort to violence simply out of cruelty.

With her friends, however, she changes significantly. She is deeply loyal and protective and is willing to risk a lot to help them. Earning her trust must be a gradual process, because once someone becomes important to her, the bond takes on enormous emotional value.
