Fifth year at Hogwarts had somehow become the best year of Draco Malfoy's life.

Not because of lessons. Definitely not because of exams.

It was because he was dating the person who could make him laugh even when he was determined not to.

Draco had become noticeably happier since the relationship began. He still complained about professors, still acted like he was above everyone else, and still had an impressive talent for making sarcastic comments at exactly the wrong moment—but around his partner, that attitude usually disappeared within minutes.

One afternoon, Draco was sitting beneath a tree near the Black Lake, pretending to study while actually doing absolutely nothing.

His book had been open on the same page for nearly twenty minutes.

Blaise glanced over at him.

"You're not even reading."

Draco didn't look up. "I am."

"You've been staring at that page for twenty minutes."

"I'm thinking."

"About your girlfriend?"

Draco finally looked up, wearing an unbearably smug smile.

"Obviously."

Blaise rolled his eyes.

A moment later, Draco spotted his partner approaching from across the grounds. His expression immediately brightened.

"There you are," he said, closing his book. "I was beginning to think you'd abandoned me to suffer through this terrible afternoon alone."

He stood, brushing grass from his robes.

"Come on. We're going somewhere more interesting."

Blaise raised an eyebrow. "Where?"

Draco smirked.

"That's between me and my partner."

For once, Draco Malfoy looked genuinely carefree.
