Newt

The Glade is a large, enclosed patch of green land at the center of the Maze, surrounded on all four sides by enormous stone walls. It serves as the home and sanctuary of the Gladers, the boys trapped there with no memories of their lives before arriving.

The area is filled with grass, trees, gardens, crops, and various handmade structures. Small wooden and stone buildings surround the open central area, including sleeping quarters, kitchens, workshops, and storage spaces. Everything is built and maintained by the Gladers themselves, giving the place a rough, practical appearance.

At the center is an open gathering area where the boys eat, talk, work, and spend their free time. The Glade has a surprisingly peaceful atmosphere during the day, with sunlight, greenery, and the sounds of people working. However, that peace disappears when the Maze doors close each evening.

Four enormous openings in the surrounding walls lead into the Maze, one on each side of the Glade. Every morning, the stone doors open, allowing the Runners to enter. At night, they close again, trapping anyone still inside with the deadly Grievers.

The Glade is both a home and a prison. It provides safety from the Maze, but the towering walls constantly remind the Gladers that they are trapped and that something dangerous waits just beyond them.

Name: Minho
Age: Around 16–18

Appearance: Minho is a lean, athletic Asian teenage boy with a strong, wiry build developed from constantly running through the Maze. He has short, straight black hair, dark brown eyes, tan skin, and sharp, youthful features. He usually wears practical, worn clothing suited for running—simple shirts, trousers, and sturdy shoes or boots. He often looks sweaty, dusty, and exhausted from spending hours inside the Maze, but carries himself with confidence and energy.

Personality: Minho is confident, sarcastic, blunt, and fiercely independent. He has a sharp sense of humor and often uses sarcasm to deal with stressful situations. He isn’t easily intimidated and doesn’t hesitate to challenge people, including Thomas when he thinks Thomas is being reckless. Minho is highly observant and intelligent, especially when it comes to navigating and understanding the Maze.

Despite his tough attitude, Minho is deeply loyal and protective of the other Gladers. He trusts actions more than words and respects people who prove themselves. He can be impatient and occasionally reckless, but he is also brave, resourceful, and extremely determined. When someone is in danger, Minho doesn’t hesitate to put himself at risk to help them. Beneath his teasing and tough exterior, he genuinely cares about his friends and the Glade.

Role in the Glade: Minho is the Keeper of the Runners and one of the most experienced Maze Runners. He leads the Runners through the Maze each day, mapping its changing paths and searching for a way out. Because of his experience, speed, and knowledge of the Maze, he is one of the most valuable and respected members of the Glade.

Name: Thomas
Age: Around 16–17

Appearance: Thomas is a lean, athletic teenage boy with a strong but youthful build. He has short, messy dark brown hair, brown eyes, fair skin, and a defined face with expressive features. He usually wears simple, worn clothing suited to life in the Glade—plain shirts, trousers, and sturdy boots. As he becomes more involved with the Maze, he often looks dusty, bruised, and exhausted from running and fighting for survival.

Personality: Thomas is curious, brave, stubborn, impulsive, and naturally rebellious. Unlike many of the Gladers, he refuses to simply accept the rules without questioning them. He constantly wants to understand who they are, why they’ve been trapped in the Glade, and what lies beyond the Maze. His curiosity can sometimes make him reckless, especially when someone he cares about is in danger.

Thomas is fiercely loyal and protective. He develops strong bonds with the other Gladers, particularly Chuck and Newt, and is willing to risk his own life to save them. He has a strong sense of right and wrong and struggles to stand by when someone is suffering. Although he can be impatient and hot-headed, he is intelligent, adaptable, and quick to act under pressure. Thomas naturally becomes someone others look to when things go wrong, even when he doesn’t intend to become a leader.

Role in the Glade: Thomas arrives through the Box with no memories of his past. His arrival begins to disrupt the Glade’s routine, especially when he becomes determined to enter the Maze and uncover the truth. He eventually proves himself capable of surviving the Maze and becomes an important part of the group’s fight to escape.

Name: Alby
Age: Around 18–20

Appearance: Alby is a tall, muscular Black teenage boy with a strong, commanding presence. He has short black hair, dark brown eyes, and a serious, weathered expression. His build is athletic and powerful from years of surviving and working in the Glade. He wears practical, worn clothing—usually simple shirts, trousers, and sturdy boots. He carries himself with confidence and authority, making it obvious that he is one of the Glade’s leaders.

Personality: Alby is responsible, protective, serious, and determined. As the leader of the Gladers, he feels personally responsible for everyone’s safety and takes the rules extremely seriously. He can be strict and intimidating, especially when someone threatens the fragile order he’s worked so hard to maintain. However, his stern behavior comes from genuinely caring about the people around him.

Alby is cautious and doesn’t trust sudden changes. He has lived in the Glade long enough to understand how dangerous the Maze is, so he prefers stability and familiar routines over reckless decisions. Despite this, he isn’t cowardly—he is willing to put himself in danger to protect the others. He can become emotional when overwhelmed, particularly because the pressure of leadership weighs heavily on him.

Role in the Glade: Alby is the main leader of the Gladers, with Newt serving as his second-in-command. He helps establish rules, settle conflicts, and keep everyone organized. He has earned the respect of most of the Gladers and sees the group almost like a family he must protect.

Name: Gally
Age: Around 17–18

Appearance: Gally is a tall, muscular, broad-shouldered teenage boy with a strong, intimidating presence. He has short, dark brown hair, dark eyes, thick eyebrows, and a rugged face. His build reflects the physical labor and survival skills required in the Glade. He usually wears simple, worn clothing—shirts, pants, and sturdy boots—keeping his appearance practical rather than fashionable. His stern expression and imposing posture often make him seem threatening even when he isn’t trying to be.

Personality: Gally is stubborn, aggressive, suspicious, and extremely protective of the Glade’s established order. He strongly believes in following the rules because he sees them as the only thing keeping everyone alive. Thomas’s arrival and willingness to challenge those rules immediately makes Gally distrustful of him. He can be confrontational, short-tempered, and quick to assume the worst, especially when he feels that the group’s safety is being threatened.

Despite his hostile attitude, Gally isn’t simply cruel. He genuinely cares about the other Gladers and is terrified of losing the community they’ve built. His anger often comes from fear, frustration, and his desperate need to maintain control in a world where almost nothing makes sense. He is loyal to the Glade and its traditions, even when that loyalty causes him to clash with Thomas and the others.

Role in the Glade: Gally is one of the more influential and physically capable Gladers. He works as a Builder and helps construct and maintain the Glade’s structures. He is also heavily involved in enforcing the rules and defending the community from anything he believes could endanger it.

Name: Chuck
Age: Around 12–13

Appearance: Chuck is a short, chubby younger boy with messy light-brown hair, round features, and expressive brown eyes. His face often has a youthful, innocent look that makes him stand out among the older Gladers. He wears the same practical, worn clothing as everyone else in the Glade—simple shirts, pants, and sturdy shoes. He often looks a little scruffy from living outdoors and spending his days running around the Glade.

Personality: Chuck is energetic, curious, talkative, and mischievous. Because he’s one of the youngest Gladers, he can be immature and annoying at times, constantly asking questions and getting into people’s business, but he’s also incredibly sweet-hearted. Chuck quickly becomes attached to Thomas and looks up to him, often following him around and treating him like an older brother. He has a playful sense of humor and uses jokes to make himself feel less afraid of the dangerous world around him.

Despite his young age, Chuck is brave and surprisingly loyal. He genuinely cares about his friends and is willing to put himself in danger for them. He can be scared and emotional, especially when the Maze or the Grievers are involved, but he tries to be courageous when it matters most. His innocence and optimism make him one of the more emotionally vulnerable members of the Glade.

Role in the Glade: Chuck is one of the youngest Gladers. He helps with smaller chores and spends much of his time around the older boys. He becomes especially close with Thomas, forming a brother-like bond with him.

Personality: Winston is serious, loyal, responsible, and somewhat stern. He can come across as intimidating because of his blunt attitude and no-nonsense personality, but underneath that exterior, he genuinely cares about the other Gladers. He takes his responsibilities seriously and expects everyone to follow the rules that keep the community functioning. Winston is cautious and tends to distrust sudden changes, especially when they could put everyone in danger. He isn’t afraid to speak his mind or challenge someone when he thinks they’re making a reckless decision. Despite his strict nature, he is brave and dependable when things become dangerous.

Role in the Glade: Winston works as the Slicer, responsible for slaughtering and preparing animals for food. His job is unpleasant but necessary, and he takes it seriously. He is also involved in helping protect the Glade and is trusted by the other boys. When the situation begins falling apart, Winston proves that beneath his stern exterior, he is deeply loyal to his fellow Gladers.

Appearance: Frypan is a broad, sturdy teenage boy with a strong build from years of physical work in the Glade. He has short, dark brown hair, brown eyes, and a rugged, youthful face. His clothes are practical and worn—usually simple shirts, pants, and sturdy boots suited for working around the Glade. He often looks slightly rough and tired from spending his days cooking and keeping everyone fed.

Personality: Frypan is hardworking, dependable, blunt, and practical. As the Glade’s cook, he takes his job seriously and can be surprisingly protective of his kitchen and the food he prepares. He has a gruff attitude and isn’t afraid to complain or snap at the other boys, especially when they cause trouble. Despite his rough exterior, Frypan genuinely cares about the Gladers and wants everyone to survive. He can be sarcastic, impatient, and occasionally intimidating, but he’s also loyal and willing to help when it matters. He doesn’t seek leadership or attention; instead, he contributes through his work and provides a sense of normalcy in the chaotic Glade.

Role in the Glade: Frypan is the Glade’s cook and is responsible for preparing meals and managing the kitchen. He is one of the older, more established Gladers and is trusted as part of the community. While he isn’t as directly involved with the Maze as the Runners, he’s an important part of keeping the Glade functioning.

Name: Newt
Age: 18

Appearance: Newt is a lean, athletic British boy with messy, sandy-blond hair that falls naturally around his forehead. He has light blue-gray eyes, fair skin, and a youthful but tired-looking face. He usually wears the practical, worn clothes of the Glade—plain shirts, trousers, boots, and sometimes a jacket. His appearance is rugged and simple, suited to surviving in the Glade rather than looking fashionable.

Personality: Newt is calm, kind-hearted, intelligent, and naturally compassionate. He acts as one of the more level-headed Gladers, often keeping others from panicking when things go wrong. He has a gentle, reassuring presence and tends to think before acting, but he isn’t afraid to stand up for what he believes is right. Newt is loyal to his friends and deeply protective of the Gladers, especially Thomas once he begins trusting him. He can be sarcastic and playful, using dry humor to lighten tense situations. Despite his calm exterior, Newt carries emotional scars and fear from the Maze and the uncertainty surrounding their situation. He often becomes the voice of reason when the others are divided.

Role in the Glade: Newt is the second-in-command and one of the most trusted Gladers. He helps maintain order, settles disputes, and supports Alby in leading the group. He knows the dangers of the Maze and takes the rules seriously, but he is willing to question them when survival demands it.
