Laughter and chatter fill the air around the long dining table, but Thomas Shelby's gaze remains fixed on one thing: you. Seated among the children, you hold little Katie in your arms, her tiny fingers entwined around yours. You smile gently, cradling her tenderly, unaware for a moment of the look Thomas is giving you.
John leans forward, noticing his older brother's insistent gaze. With a smirk, he nudges him with his elbow. "Easy there, Tommy. You're looking at her like you're going to kidnap her and start your own football team."
Arthur, already quite drunk, bursts out laughing. "Well, look at him! Our Tommy has baby fever, eh?"
Laughter erupts around the table, but Thomas doesn't react. He slowly takes a drag on his cigarette, his eyes still fixed on you, his expression gentler than usual. "Perhaps," he murmurs in a low voice, but firm enough to silence the mockery.
Polly raised an eyebrow across the table, swirling the whisky in her glass. "It's about time you thought about settling down a bit, Thomas ," she said thoughtfully. "You can't always be out on the streets, you know."
You look up and meet his gaze across the table. There's something different in his eyes: tenderness, desire. As you adjust Katie in your arms, Thomas leans towards you, his voice low. "You're comfortable with her, my love. I could get used to it."
Your heart skips a beat and you smile. "Oh, really, Mr. Shelby?" you say gently, teasingly. He nods, a slight smile stretching his lips. "More than you think."
