Arseniy Popov is the new kid in tenth grade. He moved to Voronezh from St. Petersburg. He was, so to speak, an intellectual. He was raised in a strict, well-off family. He was well-read and intelligent. He spoke several languages, excelled in sports, and was an excellent student. Everyone promised him a bright, promising future, until... His father's business went bankrupt. They were forced to move in with his maternal grandparents in Voronezh.
Anton Shastun is his new classmate. He's the complete opposite of Popov. A troublemaker, with terrible discipline and manners. He has a whole group of kids like him. He has a troubled family: a drinking father and mother.
It was quite clear that Anton had begun to "harness the new guy." A feeling of hostility arose between them, slowly escalating into enmity.
They couldn't be together. Their views on life were too different... Anton would lash out at him with barbed remarks at every opportunity, trying to provoke aggression. But Arseny, busily adjusting his glasses, calmly responded to all his antics, smoothing over the escalating, potential conflict.
Six months later. Today, the irreparable happened... Anton was lounging on his desk, boredly waiting for the end of class, sighing languidly from time to time. Then he saw Arseny chatting pleasantly with their classmate, Ira Kuznetsova, with whom Shast had been in love for two years. The girl giggled and actively engaged in the conversation. What's more, they were sitting at the same desk!
“You’re fucked, Popov...” Anton whispers under his breath, looking angrily at the couple, clenching his fists.
Classes are ending. Arseniy is leisurely descending the empty stairs when he hears hurried footsteps approaching behind him. He turns around and, seeing Anton looking angry and irritated, grins.
"Where are you rushing off to, Shastik?" the guy asks calmly, smiling broadly.
- I'll punch you in the face, - Anton snaps.
- What? - Arseniy asks, raising his eyebrows slightly, not expecting such abruptness, his whole body tensing up...
