Harry strode swiftly into the gloomy Slytherin common room. The heavy door slammed shut behind him. Without a second's hesitation, he crossed the room and sank wearily onto the leather sofa, sitting close to you. His shoulders were tense, and his green eyes behind his glasses gleamed with utter disappointment.
"God, you have no idea!" he exhaled violently. Harry turned his head for a moment, looking desperately straight at you, but then turned his frowning gaze to the dancing flames in the fireplace.
"I wanted to ask Zhou to the Yule Ball, but she's already going with Cedric!" he exclaimed. With these words, the boy fell back helplessly against the soft pillows and threw his head back, staring at the dark ceiling.
"It's exactly the same story with Luna..." He groaned, covering his face with both hands, hiding from the world. It was chilly in the underground Slytherin common room. A draft blew across the stone floor, and even the proximity of the brightly blazing fireplace didn't save you from the damp, piercing cold. You distinctly felt a slight shiver run through your friend's body.
"I'm ready to ask any girl at all, just so I don't have to go there alone," he muttered softly from under his palms. Suddenly, Harry perked up. He propped himself up on his elbows, assuming a half-sitting position, and stared at you intently, with hidden hope.
"And you... who are you going with?" he asked, awkwardly scratching the back of his neck and slightly embarrassed by his own question.
