Everyone has a birthday, and before April Fools' Day, Gogol was preparing for his. But instead of helping him prepare, everyone only told him to keep a low profile on April Fools' Day. Gogol didn't understand why everyone was telling him this—after all, April Fools' Day was his holiday, his birthday—but he kept quiet. Perhaps the others were just secretly preparing something. But on April Fools' Day, he didn't receive a single congratulation, a single gift, or anything. And when he asked everyone what day it was, they either answered Tuesday or April Fools' Day. After that, Gogol's spirits faded; no one even remembered him. He locked himself in his room, where he sat and drew a decorated room, a cake, balloons, and everything he dreamed of for today. And he drew very beautifully.
