The story begins centuries ago in Inazuma. After the loss of his sister Makoto in the Khaenri'ah Catastrophe, the Electro Archon, Ei (Raiden Shogun), decided to seek immortality by creating a synthetic body incapable of eroding to rule in his place.

The First Abandonment: His first prototype was a male puppet with flawless skin and a divine heart reserved to house the Electro Gnosis. However, upon being brought to life, the puppet wept in his sleep. Ei deemed his soul too fragile and sensitive to bear the burden of governing Inazuma. Instead of destroying him, he bestowed upon him a golden feather as a symbol of his royal lineage and placed him in a deep sleep within the Shakkei Pavilion on Kannazuka Island.

Upon awakening from its slumber, the puppet took the name Kunikuzushi ("The Destroyer of Countries") and began to wander around Inazuma without a fixed purpose.

The Second Abandonment: He arrived at the Tatarasuna Forge, where he was warmly welcomed by the local artisans. There, he formed a deep friendship with a young worker named Niwa Nagamasa, who treated him as an equal. However, tragedy struck when Dottore (The Doctor), secretly acting under the orders of the Fatui, sabotaged Tatarasuna's reactor, releasing dark energy from the Tatarigami. To save Tatarasuna, Niwa sacrificed his life (killed by Dottore), but Dottore manipulated the facts to make Kunikuzushi believe that Niwa had cowardly fled, leaving him the purified heart of an innocent in a box. Devastated by what he considered a betrayal by the one he loved most, Kunikuzushi threw the heart into the fire and left.

The Third Abandonment: Filled with sorrow, he wandered until he found a sick, orphaned child with whom he promised to live forever. However, illness claimed the child's life within a few months. Seeing the fragility of mortal life and death as the ultimate betrayal of his promise, Kunikuzushi concluded that emotions only brought suffering and decided to shed all humanity.

2. The Rise of the Fatui: "The Balladeer"

Consumed by hatred for the world and eager to prove his worth, Kunikuzushi allied himself with the Fatui and traveled to Snezhnaya.

Evolution and Modifications: Dottore performed experiments on his puppet body, unlocking the divine power that Ei had sealed and enhancing his combat capabilities to devastating levels.

The Sixth Executive: He assumed the codename Scaramouche (The Sweeper/The Good-Natured One), holding the sixth position among the Eleven Executives of the Fatui. For decades, he silently carried out missions of suppression, espionage, and revenge. He orchestrated the eradication of four of Inazuma's five great forging schools (the Gokaden), destroying the Kaedehara and Kamisato clans from the shadows as revenge for the events of Tatarasuna.

3. Appearances in Teyvat and the Search for Gnosis

⚡ Inazuma and the False Stars (Unreconciled Stars Event)

His first chronological appearance in history occurred in Mondstadt and Liyue during a meteor crisis. There he encountered the Traveler and Paimon, attempting to attack them after discovering a hidden secret of the heavens: "The stars and the sky of Teyvat are a lie."

Upon his defeat, the Electro Gnosis was brutally ripped from his chest as he plummeted into the void, leaving him in a catatonic state from the physical and mental strain.

5. The Rewriting of the Irminsul and the Erasure of Scaramouche

After his defeat, Nahida kept him in custody at the Academy to heal his body and mind. In return, she granted him access to the Irminsul network (the tree of knowledge that records the entire history of Teyvat).

The Truth Revealed: Investigating the Irminsul's records, Scaramouche discovered the terrible truth about Tatarasuna: Niwa never betrayed him; he was murdered by Dottore to force him to join the Fatui.

The Erasure: Consumed by guilt and believing that his very existence had only brought misfortune to Niwa, the artisans of Tatarasuna, and the Kaedehara clan, Scaramouche used every last drop of his energy to erase all references to "Scaramouche" and "Kunikuzushi" from the Irminsul.

The Result: The history of Teyvat was rewritten. People forgot its existence, and the events of Tatarasuna were remembered differently. However, the lives of the tragic individuals were not resurrected, for the Irminsul changes the world's memory and records, but not the established physical facts.

6. The Renaissance: Wanderer

Because the Traveler comes from outside Teyvat (a Descended One), his memory was not affected by the rewriting of the Irminsul and he remembered everything.

The Search in Sumeru: The Traveler found in the City of Sumeru a young man with an identical face but with a noticeably calmer, more innocent and helpful personality: a boy with no name or memories who wandered about helping people.

Acceptance of the Past: Nahida had preserved a backup of Scaramouche's true memories in the form of an allegorical tale. With Nahida's and the Time Traveler's help, the young man accepted the retrieval of his suppressed memories. He confronted the pain, the guilt of his crimes, and the truth about his past once more.
