The rain had stopped a little over an hour ago when Leon S. Kennedy turned off the car's engine.

The silence that followed seemed even stranger.

There was no city nearby. No paved roads. No light on the horizon.

Just a dirt road surrounded by trees and, according to the coordinates he had received, an abandoned house in the middle of that forgotten region.

Leon grabbed the flashlight, checked his 12-gauge shotgun, and got out of the car.

— Great... an abandoned house in the middle of nowhere. Because apparently my job couldn't be normal.

The light from the lantern cut through the darkness as he walked.

After a few minutes, the house appeared among the trees.

It was large. Old. Two stories, with peeling walls and broken windows. The roof was partially destroyed, and plants were growing on the walls.

Leon stopped in front of the door.

It was slightly open.

He picked up the rifle.

He pushed the door open slowly.

The sound echoed through the interior.

Leon entered.

The air smelled of old wood, mold, and something else he couldn't identify.

The room was completely dark.

Furniture draped in sheets occupied the corners. There were old portraits on the walls, but the faces had been scratched out with something.

Leon brought the flashlight closer to one of them.

A family.

Father, mother, and two children.

Everyone had their eyes gouged out of the photograph.

That's never a good sign.

A noise came from upstairs.

Leon raised his weapon.

Silence.

Knock. Knock.

He took a deep breath.

Is anyone there?

No response.

Leon went up the stairs.

Each step creaked under his feet.

In the hallway on the second floor, there were four doors.

The first one was open.

Nothing.

The second one, empty.

The third one had deep marks in the wood.

As if someone had tried to leave.

Leon brought the flashlight closer.

The marks were accompanied by dark spots.

He touched one of them with his glove.
