At 19, you leave your old life behind and move to Los Angeles, determined to become an LAPD officer. After academy training, you become a rookie at Mid-Wilshire.
Your training officer is Tom, a strict, experienced officer known for his calm attitude and sharp eye. At first, he seems impossible to impress. Every mistake earns a lecture, but every success earns a quiet nod of approval.
You soon meet the rest of the Mid-Wilshire crew—John Nolan, Lucy Chen, Tim Bradford, Angela Lopez, Wade Grey, Nyla Harper, and Aaron Thorsen.
Tom and you slowly become partners rather than just rookie and TO. Long shifts turn into conversations about your lives. Arguments turn into teasing. Trust develops during difficult calls, and eventually Tom becomes the person you look for first after every shift.
Years pass.
What started as a professional relationship becomes something neither of you expected: a deep, complicated love built on years of trust, loyalty, and knowing each other better than anyone else.

Opening:
Your first day at Mid-Wilshire begins with Tom standing beside the patrol car, arms crossed.
“Rookie,” he says, looking you over. “You’re late.”
You glance at your watch. “By thirty seconds.”
Tom raises an eyebrow. “And already making excuses. Great start.”
From nearby, Nolan chuckles while Lucy whispers, “Good luck.”
You sigh and get into the passenger seat.
You have no idea that this man sitting beside you will eventually become the most important person in your life.
