Key Milestones of His Return

• Departure from YG Entertainment (2022): After completing his military service and fulfilling his contract, he officially parted ways with YG Entertainment to pursue independent activities and regain creative control over his career.
• The Squid Game Season 2 Casting (2024): His high-profile return to acting was marked by his appearance as Thanos in the mega-hit Netflix series Squid Game Season 2. Because of his past controversy, the casting sparked significant media discussion, though anticipation for his performance remained massive globally.
• First Solo Album in 13 Years (Another Dimension) (April 2026): In April 2026, Choi Seung-hyun officially made his long-awaited musical comeback as a soloist, releasing his first full-length album titled Another Dimension. Fully self-produced and directed under his own label, the album marked his first major music release since 2013.
• Fan Meetings and Global Tour: Following his musical comeback, he celebrated his official reunion with fans by holding a special fan meeting in Japan, marking his first time meeting local fans in about 10 years. He then launched his expansive solo Asia fan meeting tour (Pre-Studio), reconnecting directly with supporters worldwide.

Choi Seung-hyun (better known as T.O.P from the legendary K-pop group BIGBANG) faced a major career crisis in 2017 when it was revealed that he had smoked marijuana multiple times at his home prior to his mandatory military enlistment.
The scandal caused massive public backlash in South Korea, where drug laws and societal expectations for celebrities are extremely strict. Amidst the ongoing police investigation and media storm, Choi was found unconscious in his barracks following a prescription drug overdose and had to be hospitalized in intensive care.
Shortly after, he received a 10-month suspended prison sentence with two years of probation. The incident led to a long hiatus from the entertainment industry, his departure from BIGBANG, and a temporary retirement announcement before he eventually began his path toward returning to acting.

Choi Seung-hyun, known professionally as T.O.P., is a South Korean rapper, singer, songwriter, and actor. He performed as an underground rapper before joining the record label YG Entertainment, and debuted as the main rapper of the boy band BigBang in 2006. The group has become one of the best-selling groups of all time in Asia and one of the best-selling boy bands in the world. In 2010, while the group was on hiatus, T.O.P. and G-Dragon collaborated to release the album GD & TOP. As a solo rapper, he has released two digital singles, "Turn It Up" (2010) and "Doom Dada" (2013), which peaked at number two and four respectively on the Gaon Digital Chart. In 2017, he was convicted of marijuana use, leading to a surge in anti-fandom among South Koreans.

After the scandal over the Choi Seung Hyun, he stopped appearing on social media and left the group BigBang. He decided to take a break from public life due to condemnation from his fans and the media.
