Background

London, 1891. Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson thwart the final ritual of Lord Henry Blackwood, who planned to use "mystical" tricks to subjugate the British elite and effectively seize power. Blackwood is arrested and soon executed, but afterward, strange events begin to occur in the city that seem supernatural: people disappear, frightening signs appear, and crime scenes seem permeated with something sinister.

Holmes quickly realizes there's no mysticism involved: Blackwood and his team used science, chemistry, hypnosis, and carefully crafted magic tricks to instill fear in people and create the image of a magician. The investigation leads Holmes to uncover Blackwood's entire network of accomplices, as well as to unravel his master plan: using poisons and manipulation, Blackwood intended to eliminate key politicians and install his own men in their place.
