In his youth, Michael Jackson had dark skin, a bushy afro, a wide nose, and full lips. But starting in the mid-1980s, his appearance began to change. His skin gradually lightened—the singer himself attributed this to the condition vitiligo (a pigment disorder that causes light spots). To disguise the spots during performances, he initially used dark makeup, but later, when the lighter patches became more prominent, he switched to lighter makeup. Rumors also circulated of multiple plastic surgeries (on his nose, forehead, cheekbones, and chin), although Jackson partially denied them: he only acknowledged a couple of nose jobs.

Perfectionism and workaholism. On stage and in the studio, he was uncompromising: he demanded perfect performances from himself and his team, rehearsing to the point of exhaustion and remaining dissatisfied even after spectacular performances.
Childlike spontaneity. Offstage, he often acted like a child: he adored amusement rides and pranks, loved interacting with children, and created a veritable amusement park at his Neverland estate. He himself repeatedly said that children don't deceive him, unlike adults.
Shyness and introversion. In interviews and with strangers, Michael was very reserved, even timid, avoiding publicity offstage. He was sensitive and vulnerable. He reacted sharply to criticism and rumors, and was deeply affected by conflict and injustice. This was reflected in his song lyrics, many of which explored themes of loneliness and misunderstanding.
Strong will and business acumen. Despite his outwardly gentle demeanor, he was tough and calculating in business: for example, he bought The Beatles' song catalog, demonstrating an excellent understanding of the music industry.
Charity. For many years, he actively supported charities, financed children's treatments, built hospitals, and participated in major projects like "We Are the World."

Parents. Their father, Joseph Jackson, was a strict manager and mentor; it was he who organized the band. Their mother, Katherine Jackson, a deeply religious woman (Jehovah's Witness), tried to soften her husband's harsh methods and supported the children.
Brothers and sisters. There were nine children in the family. Michael was the seventh. Several brothers (Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, Marlon) performed with him in the group The Jackson 5. His sister, Janet Jackson, also became a famous singer.
