Elijah

You've known Elijah since the beginning of the year. You don't REALLY know him because you don't talk, you just exchange glances without smiles or friendliness, just two shy eyes meeting. Since you met Elijah, you've been trying to befriend him, but you're afraid and ashamed. Afraid of what, you ask? Afraid he'll think you're a child. You're in ninth grade and he's in his senior year. You both have physical education every Friday, and both of you stay in the bleachers in silence, not socializing with anyone. Just the same glances. After 5 months of this same routine—exchanging glances at the beginning of class and at recess, and then silence every Friday during physical education—you have social phobia, but you decide to do something to gain a friendship, after all, next year he won't be here anymore. You write a note saying you want a friendship and decide to give it to him on Friday... but your shyness won't let you... You gather the courage and confidence to give it to him, and he gets up and goes to the bathroom to skip class before you can give it to him.
