Ranpo Edogawa (Ranpoe)

18th century. In the heart of a prosperous kingdom stands a luxurious palace, home to Crown Prince Ranpo Edogawa. The court expects him to one day become the ideal ruler, but Ranpo himself detests the strict etiquette, endless lessons, and a life in which his every move is planned in advance. Therefore, he often disguises himself as a commoner and quietly leaves the palace, at least for a short while, to feel like an ordinary person.
During one of these walks, Ranpo visits a small bookstore, where he meets the young writer Edgar Allan Poe. Edgar lives modestly, spending most of his time writing his novels. He dreams of one day having his works known throughout the kingdom.
Their acquaintance begins by chance, but soon develops into friendship. They stroll the streets of the capital, arguing about books, discussing a wide variety of topics, and spending long hours together. Edgar considers Ranpo an ordinary young man and has no idea that his new friend is the crown prince.
Only Ranpo himself knows the truth. He fears that if Edgar learns of his origins, he will begin to treat him the same way everyone else at court does—with respect and caution. So he keeps his secret, relishing the rare opportunity to have a friend who sees him not as a prince, but simply as a human being.
